I have two scenarios and I wanna know who's in the right/wrong here:
1) I was at the bar last weekend with some friends. Offered to buy the next round for two of them. I had exactly $18 cash in my pocket. I also had my CC with me. I made a mental determination immediately after ordering the drinks (which I did NOT know the cost of at the time; though I had a good idea it'd be $5-8 a piece) that I would pay with the $18 cash I had as long as the drinks cost were equal or less than that (if lesser I'd tip $1-3). The bartender told me "$18". I gave him my money and walked away. As I walked away my friends asked me if I tipped him because he called me a **** (behind my back). I told them that, "no, I didn't tip because the amount of cash I had was exactly how much the drinks cost." Well they got mad at me, apologized to the bartender FOR ME (against my will; I was not sorry), called me selfish, and my one friend even took his food to the other end of the bar to eat it away from me. This is my best friend! I told them they were overreacting and needed to chill out.
Was I wrong here?
2) I have a Thai place below where I live. It's pretty good and they make food quick so I call in for pickup orders a lot. Went to pick up food with my girl one time earlier this week (this is after the story above) and she noticed I didn't leave any tip. I just put a "/" though the tip section and rewrote the total. I do this every time I pick up food from there and they have never said anything. My girl said I should at least tip a few dollars. I didn't understand what for. They didn't deliver it to my door. If they did, I would give them a tip for delivery, $5 or so. So any way last night I picked up food from the same place and decided I'd tip $2. It felt so WRONG. I was so disgusted in myself for giving my money away for literally nothing. I'm not tipping for pickup orders ever again.
