i give all delivery drivers $5 tips. if my order is 50 or up i do 20%
waitress/waiters $5 automatically i dont care about that 15-20% mumbo jumbo

if i walk in a deli restaurant i give a dollar or two and whatever the quarters
Barber automatically give him $20 for my cut regardless of what i get. comes in handy when you in a rush and get to skip the line.

With waitstaff, you save their employer about 70% per employee, almost $6 an her per employee, $12,480 assuming a 40hr week schedule. With these other jobs, I guess it's supposed to create some kind of good will and give them incentive to do their job, as if just the threat of being fired/replaced isn't enough like the rest of the work force has as motivation. And that feeling should be hire for waitstaff too because your job requires absolutely no skills or education.
Can you read and write at an elementary level? They're quick to complain if they don't think your tip was adequate, then at the same time brag about weekend shifts where they make $200 in 4 hrs. Look at it as a gamble, sometimes you win. sometimes you lose. Just be happy we live in a 1st world country, otherwise you would be replaced by preteens anyways. You see that some now at family owned Oriental (food is Oriental, right?) restaurants; they'll have their little 10 yr old daughter come take your order and refill your drinks. Put cup under spout with logo and words that match the choice the customer made, push button. They've even automated that process so you don't have to figure out the amount of time before the cup gets full that you have to stop pressing it and how much foam will be present and possibly overflow.

Yeah, everyone demands more money for doing their job and they view you as the scum of the earth if you choose not to tip. It's pretty hilarious. What's even better is when you don't tip enough.

you should just tip whomever you feel like tipping. there shouldnt be no rules, there shouldnt be no scientific method.
if someone whether him/her have done something for you, whether a service or not, tip'em if you've thought about tipping them because even some low amount like a dollar (depending where your'e at) wouldn't hurt.
ex. i sometimes tip my halal food guy just for the heck of it cuz he made me a great pile of food.

Tipping in restaurants in America, is protocol, if you don't want to tip for good service, don't eat out. Wait staff are paid $2.13 an hour. It just is what it is. A lot of other things I agree don't deserve tips. The garbage man picks up trash with an automated truck by me, and I don't put wild things in the trash...the mailman delivers mail that's his gig. If someone does a nice job for me I will bless them, but if you want more $ charge more.

Or, using the same logic, if you want to make more than 2 dollars an hour, how bout you develop a real skill and/or get a better job, or don't voluntarily take a job making $2 an hour and think the world is supposed to feel sorry for your plight. casino dealers yes, especially if theyre friendly/helpful and im up
i will say that mailmen...my fam gives our mailman something for the holidays, hes a nice dude and he chats it up with us randomly.
and bathroom attendants...ONLY if i take gum/mints or use the cologne or something. just so i dont look like a freeloader
edit: hotel housekeeping ill leave a 10 if we left the room a hot mess. so usually, yes.
