I think I get it.

If YOU ARE not learning - if you are not soaking up the knowledge that is there to be found in the world then

your not missing - your, mentally, not missing.  Everyone in the world is drone-%*# these days.  But once you learn the way the world works you mentally depart and become a part of the "others".  Sort of like a matrix mentality.  Once you take the pill you go missing.  But if you don't take the pill you are still present.  So if you are not actually learning then you are present and there for not missing
