If you won the lottery, would you still continue to work?

It will be a full time job managing all that money and defending off the hang ons, and strangers coming out the woodwork. Also churches and charities. People trying to exort you, kidnapp your family for ransom. family lying saying setting up a kidnapping on themselves to get money from you and the list goes on. Your kids will need a full time body guard, you would need it.

Exotic whips will be copped

Mansions will be copped

Shopping sprees will happen

Pornostars & instagodesses will be getting flown out and peed on

Crazy question, how many hours of television do you clock in ome day?

I would never set foot in this place again unless it was to smack fire out of a couple people

No.

My family wouldnt have to worry about anything except their recklessness.

Im packing up and leaving this god forsaken city and everybody in it unannounced. Moving to FLA probably wouldnt be any better.

$500 MM is quite a bit of money to have overnight, but since this is a hypothetical scenario--Why don't we try to be a bit realistic?

I would quit the job I'm in now and start doing other things to keep my busy.

If I'm winning $500 MM from the lottery, then I'm going to be hit with taxes. In NY state, lottery tax is around 39.9% (could be a little off). So, I'm really coming home with $300.5 MM after those taxes. I could take a lump sum and "ease" in the cash flow, but with the chances of taxes going up and taking into consideration of time value, I'm better off with a lump sum.

First thing I'll probably need is a lawyer, because of all the ensuing legal claims I may face. Also, I'm probably going to want to stay anonymous to protect myself and my family. A revocable living trust will have to be made. This is most likely going to cost me 3-5%. I'm left with $285.5 MM

Then I'm going to need someone to manage all this money and also a financial planner, because no one can manage that much money all on their own no matter how fiscally educated you are. So, we're looking at another 10-15% being taken away. I'm now left with $247.2 MM.

So, I'm really looking at around $250 MM to play with. This is fun part now, right?

  1. First thing I'd do is put all the money in a low-risk savings account that bears interest over time so I can immediately see profits.
  2. Then I'd probably start a few charities to help out people and the community. This is going to come in handy when I need to file for taxes.
  3. I'd seriously look into buying real estate all over major cities such as New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco, London, Paris and Hong Kong.
  4. I would then pay off debts of all my family members and loved ones. I would also give each family that's close to me $250k to for whatever expenses they may have. I'm not going to support everyone for the rest of their lives.
  5. After spending money of frivolous things that don't appreciate in value, I would then start my own Hedge Fund or Venture Capital firm and find partners whom I could work with and make my money grow even more.

If people know you got 500 million cash they are coming after you and your family

Now you got other people who are filthy rich but its different, they earned it over time not OVERNIGHT...  and they dont have 500 million sitting in a bank account, alot of it is stock they can cash out etc plus the fact they are celeberties and it would be alot of heat from the police

If you win 500 million cash you better protect yourself for the first few years

Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Shakespeare

he won 17 million and got buried in his own backyard for his money

250k thats it? How many family members?

Yeap, that's it. People who lose money are the one's who are giving it away recklessly. This is how athletes go broke so quickly. $250k is MORE than enough to change a family's life overnight. Hell, $20k is enough to change some peoples lives.

Once they have the $250k, they can do whatever they want with that cash. But they won't get anymore from me. if they're smart, they can make that money grow and start a better life.

Some people would think I'm being greedy, but a LOT of the money I won would go towards creating charities and funds. i just can't picture myself supporting my ENTIRE family members. My mother, father and sister would be taken care of for the rest of their lives (Revocable Family Trust), but that's as far as i'd go.

but im saying. Your blood family.Like brother sister mom dad, you would only give 250k out of 500million lottery you won?

if it was me I would throw that money back in your face. i would give my family at least a million cash each and buy there house and car.Tell them make it last. In the mean while setup trust or something for them that pays 150k a year for the rest for their lives. Heck I can take 10 million and put in in a CD account and pay them just off interest

500 million is a lot, even 260 million. I mean really you dont even have to touch that 260 million and you can get close to 26 million a year for life just off interest, it would be nothing to give my close friends and family (about 7) 1 million a year or even 500k each a year. As long as I'm good, my family will too. They can piss that money away year after year i wouldnt care because Im getting 26 million a year off interest and still havent touched my 260 million. Money shouldnt even be a issue and 250k to a family member is a smack in their faces

I said my mother, father and sister would be in the revocable family trust. That basically means they also own the $500 MM I won. I guess I wasn't clear when I mentioned who I would be giving $250k to.

The $250k would go towards extended family. Such as my aunts, uncles and cousin. Each family would get $250k.

never again work for someone else, You now have enough money to invest in things you love/believe in

I wouldn't work ever again.

I would like to have several businesses tho, so if you wanna call that work then I guess.

My best friend is a barber, so I would open a barbershop.

My girlfriend is going for Physical Therapy (so am I) I would open our own clinic.

My Dad makes great West Indian food, would open up my own restaurant.

I think owning those three while having a cool $500mil would be a great lifestyle. that would be lovely. lol.

Regardless of that, me and my girl WILL have our own clinic. :pimp:. its good to dream, but its also good to put in work.

I dont want to pay for health insurance on my own. even if I had a **** ton of money. I like my job. i'd still work. I'd probably start my own business though and eventually just do that

Nah, there's an easy way to get fired. Leave for a while (I prefer to be gone for 2 months) with no message or word of anything - It's even better if they don't know you've won the lottery - then come back to work like nothing happened, like you've been going to work normally like you wasn't here.

Give no explanation for why you were gone. Tell them it might happen again and thne when they fire you collect that extra cash on the side :pimp:

I'm assuming I've won hundreds of millions btw.

I'd work so I could lay low from my scavenger aquaintences. But I'd give no damns. I'd keep the rari on deck

Considering most people who win the lottery end up broke, yes I would still work. Plus I want the Healthcare and I would max my 401k just cause I could to the highest number my company would match. I can work from home at my job so its not like people really have to see me. I would just come through the main office 3 times a year in something foreign tho. The objective is trying to keep as much money as I can in my pocket even if I got half a bill.

I'd go back to work for a while, in the meantime figuring out what id do. Once I figured out what I wanted to do, I'd probably work part time remotely and train my replacement so I wouldn't totally leave them SOL. FWIW I like my job, supervisor, and company.

I couldn't imagine having a bunch of money and then just quitting my job. I need the routine.

There's no way I could return to some job if I won the lottery, especially an amount like 500 million. With that amount, you could literally live on interest paid on investments.

I'd ball out for a month maybe then I'd wrangle the excessive spending in.

Your company has an unlimited 401(k) match?????

If I won the lottery... I would leave my current employment immediately...

Take Full-Time job training/preparing dogs for adoption at Humane Society or SPCA.

Boom.

Only to plan a grand departure, Half-Baked style. There would be maybe an elephant that I can ride out on...Obviously some confetti. A championship belt and a crown. I'd hand out envelopes filled with like 20k to certain employees.

I'd be on some "I wish a mofo would..." pretty much every day.
