Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

That's good... trust, apply for every department if you have to.

I don't know how it is where you're at. But here in Vegas, it's pretty intense. You have to go through/pass written, then physical, then oral board, then psych eval test, followed by polygraph, then a thorough back ground investigation, then medical exam... keep in mind, it goes by ranking. If you aren't rank high enough, you don't make it, even if you passed everything.

Which is why I suggest to apply for every department!

Yea most definitely. I'm out in Maryland but the process sounds basically the same as you described. With the test I was originally supposed to take today, I know I would've passed, but like you said, my rank relative to the other applicants probably wouldn't have been as high as I would've liked. I took the county sheriff test out here a couple years back, && I passed both but apparently faltered in some part of the process as they never hit me back. But I'm back to hitting the gym consistently now so I'll be ready for both agility tests when they come around.

Got an interview with the police Tuesday anybody got any tips as far as what to expect for their hiring process?

Congrats dude. From what I know and have heard in the past, I'd expect a highly detailed background check/polygraph test, as well as an evaluation for the department to see how much of a fit you'd be on the force. Sounds like you're on the right track though...best of luck my man.

How was the written/physical out where you are?

Did you already take your written and physical test?

If so, congrats. Now the oral board is probably THEEE most important process in hiring.

Be familiar with your department values and goals. Know what you're gonna say, meaning, think about the question before you answer, don't just wing it and sound smart.

Posture/position/eye contact is very important. Be sure to let them know what you did to get at that position... what makes your qualified than other candidates

Anyone ever use Startwire?

http://www.startwire.com/

Curious as to how helpful this really can be.

I also signed up for the one month trial of LinkedIn Premium the other day so I could Inmail people directly, its already come in handy once, as I saw a job posted by someone I have dealt with in the past before and just contacted them directly about it. I feel like I dont use my Linkedin as a tool to find a job well enough. Going to give it a shot.

Depends on the evaluator/"interrogator"... Mine consisted of hours of constant questioning.

The main focus is maintaining your heart rate. This determines if you're not telling the truth or avoiding the question.

Like I said, it's pretty intense. They hooked me up to this chair which had sensors under my feet, under my butt, around my chest, forehead and the tip of my fingers.

They will start out with simple questions like "Is your name ___" "Are you testing for ____ position?"

They are evaluating your heart rate and finding a rythem. Then they start asking personal questions.

Came in to tell y'all not to give up and to keep bettering yourselves while looking for something in general or something better.

i got a call this morning from my boss that i was hired to run the lounge of a casino near my place that is operated by the same tribe.

i am so happy, i have been working on call since may, its been very inconsistent.

but every time i went in to work i busted my behind.

i will be running the audio and video equipment also lighting.

i have not received schooling but i got into this field as a stagehand at age 18 setting up props and things like that im now 27.

i have only had 4 jobs but all of them i have stayed there for over a year or in some cases 2.

i was let go from my job in april 2012, this dude hated on me because i was running the audio booth on my own and he was overlooked since he was lazy,

i confided in him and i told him about my drug problem.

they had big plans for me

, i was clean for almost a week and then i got paranoid that they were going to fire me, so then i used.

the next day i was called into the HR office and told that i was being sent in for a drug test, my drug problem NEVER got in the way of my work.

nobody even knew. when i went in to talk to HR after the results came in there was nothing bad he could even say about my work ethic, i was one of the best workers they had.

he just told me that he was really concerned for me and asked how long i had been using, he told me that he wasn't going to deny me unemployment benefits which surprised me.

that place is now closing after 23 years of operating, my girl is one of the top people there too.

i've been on unemployment ever since, and i still am, since i dont get fulltime.

the job i have now pays 25 an hour but im lucky to get 10 hours on a paycheck, it's picked up  recently but it's really unpredictable.

i really needed this, i was a junkie when i was let go, a full blown heroin addict, i felt like a worthless piece of trash, i was just thinking about dying.

i will celebrate 2 years clean come june.

@Rustlenomics, props to you man.

I'm not totally jobless thankfully but looking for a higher paying job that is more relevant to my graduate school studies (finishing Masters in May). Anyone else HATE that so many companies ask for previous salary information and make it required that you list it, even when they list a salary range? I don't make much on paper at all, so I always feel like the company is going to either lowball me (I don't mind being on the lower end of salary range when it's listed) or that because what I'm making/made is much lower than what the position calls for that they will feel i'm not good enough for the position, despite my resume looking fine to them or how the interview would go. It's another way to smear out candidates... smh

Same spot as you and I go through this all the time. I always raise what I'm currenlty making TBH, because if i didnt it would lead to exactly what you just described.

I usually have a set range that I run through and depending on whether or not I've had the opportunity to Glassdoor the position or recieved an email before a phone call, I ammend it accordingly.

^ Same position as both of you. My current position I got thru a temp agency, and when they wanted to hire me my supervisor asked me how much the agency was paying me and I was honest with him (the best mistake of my career so far). He lowballed me, I countered and got a little bit more, but still low paying for the type of work I do.

Now when I'm looking for a new job and applying to grad school (where they ask the salary question as well), you would think I was an AP clerk or something.

Companies should pay for your skills and what the job entails rather than basing it on what your last job paid.

I just got off the phone with a staffing firm and they are going to submit me for a position. Asked me how much I made, I told him and first words out of his mouth were " I wish you were making more so I could submit you for more, but I cant justify a $XX,XXX salary increase to them" Instantly shook my head and thought of this thread.

I never want to grossly overstate what I make in the event they call my former employer. Then what?

It's so crazy @Antidope @PAIDNFULL23 , so frustrating and stressful too. Sometimes I feel like all this schooling isn't worth squat, just a huge pile of debt. SMH at Corporate America.

Just got a call from a bank to set up an interview, and surprisely they asked what salary I wanted for the position and not how much I make

Never interview w/ Verizon but interviewed w/ Tmobile twice (Consumer report couldn't contact one of my employers so they disqualified me  )

They are sales oriented and want you to know your stuff, just not as much as you know how to sell. If you are familiar w/ phones and can sell decently you'll be good. Just go in there sit tall, and show you have confidence bro. Just don't come off arrogant. Let them know who are doing what u have to do in order to provide for yourself/family, if u can get them to relate to u in some way, u should do well.

Good Luck

^ Thanks bruh. Ive worked in wireless before, but went away from it. I feel confident that I can do the job. Just gotta kill this interview.

I applied for a position as a Air Traffic Control Specialist a couple days ago. My boy put me on it said i should take a look. We'll see how it goes

Just had a interview with verizon. I think I killed it. Had fun made jokes and answered every question with confidence.

Yesterday i had my orientation for PT Gaming. Basically a middleman within casinos not on Indian Reservations.

I start training tomorrow, im pretty excited as I have been unemployed since Nov.2012

For all those still looking, hang in there and keep at it.
