really, i'd like to spend no more than around 300-600. tryna get a new dell before school starts too, guess i shouldn't have said"splurge" since i'm limiting myself to such a tight budget.

My friend recently asked me if I would photograph some jewelry that she is making to advertise her product.
Her styles are similar to..
Any suggestions on techniques that would work well for this kind of thing? Lighting, Backgrounds, on the hand or off? A set photographs taken w/ the sameform or varied shots?

New member but I've been lurking on NT for a while now (not so much into shoes anymore, I stay for the General and Sports forums).
I've been really impressed by a lot of the shots posted up in this thread. It seems like everyone is shooting with a DSLR though. I shoot with a PanasonicLX-2 point and shoot because I figured it'd be kind of awkward having to carry around a huge camera everywhere I went. Although there are a lot ofrestrictions shooting with a point and shoot (mainly a small sensor, limited range in shots, limited ISO settings, etc.), I take it as a challenge and I try toget the most of every shot.

can anyone recommend me a good lense for the Nikon D40, right now im using the stock lense.

What are you looking to use it for? I love my 50mm lense, and most are good quality and pretty cheap.

Only thing that sucks is that the 50mm wont autofocus with the D40 body. Unless you get the $500 Sigma 30mm f1.4.
