***Official Political Discussion Thread***

At this point republicans care more bout losing their racist or "conservative" white supporters than gaining new minorty voters ...they know you can't have ppl openly hating one group of ppl then welcoming that same group in as well ...they not getting minorty votes anytime soon

I think one of the best points the article makes is that black propel don't trust republicans and conservatives with civil rights. If they knew at base that republicans would leave them intact and progress with them they'd far more likely give them an audience and look at what republicans can offer as a political party. Civil rights isn't something black people have to worry about with democrats.

That's the thing too. Even when Republicans point to stuff Democrats supposedly did bad to the black community, if someone takes 10 mintues to look into it, you find out the GOP played a part and wanted more punitive measures.

See welfare reform, see the Clinton's crime bill.

The GOP is in denial about how depth the racist rot goes in their party. If the GOP is a tooth we are past the flossing more stage, past the filling, and past the root canal. You're looking at an extraction.

From vanity fair:

In March, when Trump was still paying for his presidential run mostly out of his own pocket, his campaign spent $35,458 to rent its headquarters in Trump Tower. Last month, however, that figure surged to $169,758, even as the number of paid campaign employees and staff dropped from 197 to 172 over the same period, the Huffington Post reports. The sharp increase in campaign spending appears to correspond to a large infusion in cash from outside donors. According to the Huffington Post, the amount Trump Tower has charged the campaign for rent has steadily increased since May, the same month that Trump clinched the nomination and inked a deal with the Republican National Committee to fund his campaign. At the end of May the campaign doled out $72,800, followed by $110,684 in June, and $169,758 in July.

Trump Tower isn’t the only Trump property to have benefited. Over the same period, the Huffington Post reports a number of Trump’s namesake golf courses and restaurants have earned a total of $260,000, citing F.E.C. records. In July alone, the campaign spent $495,000 on Trump’s air travel, which is operated by a company that he owns. The Washington Post estimated that the Trump clan has pocketed $7.7 million as a result of the campaign’s expenditures.

So even if he loses he'll make sure to pay himself and try to recoup what he lost during his campaign in the beginning.

Trump just increased the rent for his campaign headquarters like around 500%. The rent is being payed by campaign donations. :smh:

I'm waiting for one of his Stans to excuse this blatant finessing as having "business acumen"

He speaks his mind though. And he's not afraid to tell the truth!

anybody watching the show "brain dead"? it's a pretty good satire of American politics. reminds me of this thread a lot...

Trump is actively campaigning for the black vote and you all don't want to hear it. Completely ignoring his words and focusing on your same tired narrative. I said Republicans were now aggressively trying to appeal to the minority community and yet no one wants to listen. :smh:

Oh we trying to act like people don't make money of politics? Ask Barack and Michelle how they became millionaires.

What's with all da race and identity politics from Trump? Shouldn't he be trying to appeal to ALL people? SMH @ this liberal nonsense

**** outta here. Just admit your mind is up because you're going with the zeitgeist of the majority of black people.

Minorities: Republicans don't do care about us.

Republican Candidate: I'll help make your neighborhoods safer.

Minority Voter: He's disingenuous.

But you believe the Dems though...

Blacks: we want fairer and safer policing in minority communities

Trump: I'm going to be the president of law and order

See the disconnect?

It's trump and republicans duty to prove to minorities that everything they think about republicans is wrong. "Aggressive campaigning" has to entail more than convincing white people that Trump isn't a racist. And it probably shouldn't have started 2 months before the election.

Has Trump uttered as much as a word about police brutality and the corrupted system of zero accountability? Last time I checked he was ranting about "the war on police" and putting more police in neighborhoods. See his law & order speech.

Has he acknowledged systemic racism? Made an effort to appear and communicate in actual black communities for his outreach? Has he spoken out against the GOP's continued attempts to disenfranchise black voters (see North Carolina)?

If he wants to make a real outreach, he should start by going to their communities instead of trying to court them infront of 90%+ white towns and crowds. Even if you ignore all that, he spent the majority of his campaign pandering to the angry ignorant white crowd. But now that he's behind in the polls and under pressure from GOP officials, he's finally making an effort if you can call it that but it seems to miss the mark entirely.

The GOP has thrown minorities under the bus for decades and still does so today by trying to disenfranchise minority voters.

They brought their lack of minority support on themselves. Eventually the GOP will have to have a major reform in order to keep up with growing minority population, but they're obviously not at that point yet. They have nobody to blame but themselves for the current situation, and repairing that damage isn't gonna happen in just one election year.

Trump campaign is not actively campaigning not nothing. Stop lying

They ask for their votes, that's it.

They have proposed zero policies to help the community, they keep pedaling the lie that all black people live in the ghetto, they say they can't come to lback neighborhoods because it is too "dangerous" :rolleyes , and Mike Pence pretty much laughed off the idea of them winning the black vote.

The GOP has a long history of disrespecting the black community, and are actively trying to disenfranchise them for political gain

Stop deluding yourself and getting mad at other people for not indulging in your delusions

On the call, Trump’s director of African American outreach, Omarosa Manigault — a former contestant on “The Apprentice,” the NBC reality television show that starred Trump — outlined a plan to boost the GOP nominee.

almost spit out my breakfast laughing at this.

btw, rico, when are you going to post for us all the pro-black stuff in the GOP platform? Or do you not want to be taken seriously on here? :nerd: Roger Stone agent walks among us. **** out of here.

The gop ain't serious about courting black voters... Not when you got examples like NC republican chair Hasan Harnett getting essentially kicked out because he's black, not when a Georgia GOP chair John Padgett who has multiple discrimination suits against him one of them being that he openly called a black staffer a house n****r several times, & Illinois GOP chair Jim Allen calling a black republican Harvard grad running for congress a "street walker being pimped by politicians."

You also have one of the North Carolina precinct chairs saying this about the state's voter ID laws, "If it hurts a bunch of lazy blacks that want government to give them everything, so be it."

You can't call someone ugly for decades & then expect to go to prom with them... :rolleyes This talk is just a desperate attempt at a hail mary now that they've seen the numbers. The gop should've started working on this after the last presidential election but their main focus was block every piece of legislation Barry & the dems tried to pass.

It's funny because in the 70s rnc chair Bill Brock started laying ground work to court black & minority voters to the party. He said the party could no longer solely rely on, "white, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant, Buick-driving, middle income, and male” constituency" & spent millions at the time to build a black/minority base with the republican party and it worked because by '78, dozens of states saw an increase in upwards of 30% of blacks & minorities joining their party.

That all came crashing down once reagan became president. State party leaders were afraid of "minority infiltration" & how it cause them to lose leverage within the party so they latched on to ronnie & consolidated their strength by playing to economic anxieties and social stratifications that racialized the issues. It's been downhill ever since.
