When does Hayne's jersey go on clearance? I really wish he stayed, but it would have been tough to get PT.

He looked like a more polished mike alstott to me .. thought he would flourish with chip...

Is this just the start of the retirement party like last year
lmao. this post makes zero sense.

mike alstott was a fullback, jarryd hayne was a taillback, and chip kelly doesn't use fullbacks.

So Vernon Davis' fiancée put him on blast for cheating on her with some 20-year old Bay area chick.... I wonder if that drama was the reason for his decline in play the last 2 years with the Niners??

That also makes no sense. Alstott ran like a bowling ball with natural knee/hip bend and low pad level. The biggest knock everyone has on hayne was how ridiculously upright he was as he ran. Dude looked like Forrest Gump on the field.

The disrespect towards the a-train. :smh: One of my favorite players of all time.

speaking of fullbacks, i hate the idea of bruce miller transitioning to tight end. i don't think he'll find much success. he doesn't have the size or the speed to thrive at the position. his route running is good for a fullback, but crude for a tight end.

running a zone run scheme doesn't render the fullback useless. seattle uses a fullback in some of their zone runs. chip could find a way to utilize him in the backfield as a lead blocker, but i just don't see it happening for bruce.

in this scheme, i feel like that 11th spot on the field is better utilized with an inline blocking tight end that can flex out and be a real receiving threat rather than a fullback that is almost exclusively limited to being in the backfield.

chip loves crapping on the bay area media with his snarky, condescending responses

love it. some of the questions these guys ask are so stupid.

random but relevant to all 49er fans: I live in AZ and was out at the club a few weeks ago and I spot Kyle Williams. No one recognizes who he is so I go up to him and say Hey, you Kyle Williams? He looked 5'6 in person so I wanted to confirm. He goes yeah what up man and daps. The convo goes something like this

me: so you got a ring man, did you play at all this year?

kyle : hah, nah man i didn't get the ring yet but I been rehabbing all year

me: are you even in the league anymore?

kyle: hah nah not right now i'm waiting to see if I get picked up

me: man im a 49ers fan, so you know what it is

kyle: oh that's wassup that's wassup

me: yeah, yeah..... look, i mean, you were getting death threats!

kyle: (nervously responds) hah yea,yea yea look, this what i'm gonna tell you, at the end of the day I don't care what anybody say as long as my teammates back me. And they was all good wit me. The other people talkin wasn't out on the field so i ain't worried about all that

me: but our window is closed now, you know that right. We had the defense and everything that year

kyle: you know the reason why? everybody say it was Harbaugh who pushed everybody out but nah the people inside know the real problem is Trent. He pushed everybody out and caused all the retirements. That's what it really was, Trent is killing the team. They wasn't getting along with his ways anymore.

then he buys me and my boys a round and daps and we split. interesting perspective, I don't know. this dude still makes my soul burn slow so I had to take a few jabs at him lol

I don't think I could ever be friends with someone named Kyle Williams

Still hurts bros

Review of today's OTA

Chip Kelly's first OTA session on Tuesday was as advertised.

Fast.

Plays were being executed generally less than 15 seconds apart. Offensive and defensive players were flying around the field in a very upbeat, pad-less workout.

Take a look at our 15 observations from the day.

1. Jimmie Ward lined up at right cornerback with the first-team defense. In San Francisco's nickel defense, Ward manned his usual slot position and Dontae Johnson joined Tramaine Brock as perimeter defenders. Ward recorded an interception on a tipped pass, too.

2. Blaine Gabbert, Thad Lewis and rookie Jeff Driskel led the first, second and third-team offenses, respectively. All three made several quick-timing throws throughout the afternoon.

3. Veteran offensive lineman Erik Pears lined up at right tackle. He was joined on the first-team line by right guard Brandon Thomas, center Daniel Kilgore, left guard Zane Beadles and left tackle Joe Staley. The second-team offensive line from right left featured Trent Brown, Andrew Tiller, Marcus Martin, Ian Silberman and Colin Kelly.

4. Rookie guard Joshua Garnett is unable to participate in offseason practices until Stanford wraps up school. Linebacker Ahmad Brooks, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey and rookie cornerback Will Redmond rehabbed their respective injuries and did not participate in on-field drills. Safety LJ McCray saw action during individual drills.

5. Wide receiver Eric Rogers made several eye-catching receptions. The 6-foot-3 wideout, who last played in the CFL, was able to out-leap cornerbacks to grab downfield throws. Rogers connected with Gabbert on a dig route across the middle and later snatched a jump ball from Driskel just short of the goal line.

6. The opening group period of practice featured a drill where all three quarterbacks, plus Kelly and quarterbacks coach Ryan Day, fired passes at the same time to five different receivers. Every eligible receiver was able to catch a pass at the end of their intended route. Another example of Kelly's efficient practice methods saw the offense alternating the left and right sides of the field in a combination route-running drill against the defense. Quarterbacks quickly alternated making throws in the rapid-fire drill.

7. Lewis' most memorable throw of the day was a deep sideline go route to Jerome Simpson in the opening 7-on-7 period. Simpson was able to secure the ball in front of Brock, who had tight coverage on the play.

8. Second-team cornerbacks Johnson and Kenneth Acker recorded pass breakups in the 7-on-7 period.

9. Arik Armstead lined up as the first-team left defensive tackle. He was joined on the line by nose tackle Mike Purcell and right defensive tackle Quinton Dial. Former defensive tackle Tank Carradine lined up mostly as a right outside linebacker. First-round draft pick DeForest Buckner saw action in the same position with the third-team defense. All rookies took third-team reps, which makes sense since they're playing catch up with the veterans at this stage of the offseason.

10. Bruce Miller made several catches in his new H-back role, including a well-thrown deep crossing route from Gabbert in the first 11-on-11 period of the day.

11. DuJuan Harris, Shaun Draughn, Mike Davis and rookie Kelvin Taylor took reps behind Carlos Hyde at running back. The runners were also very involved in the passing game.

12. Harris was joined by wide receivers Bruce Ellington, DeAndrew White and undrafted rookie Bryce Treggs for kick return work.

13. Marcus Cromartie lined up as a reserve safety during 11-on-11 drills.

14. Gabbert's best throw of the day was a skinny post to Garrett Celek, who slipped past the coverage of safety Eric Reid. Gabbert beat the coverage with a throw that led his receiver up the field.

15. Linebacker Gerald Hodges, who lined up next to NaVorro Bowman as first-team inside linebackers, broke up a pass at the line of scrimmage. Other defensive highlights included Tony Jerod-Eddie and Buckner recording sacks in a third-down team period.

watch it be nessa's
So Vernon Davis' fiancée put him on blast for cheating on her with some 20-year old Bay area chick.... I wonder if that drama was the reason for his decline in play the last 2 years with the Niners??

Watch it turn out to be Nessa's sister or cousin or some **** like that.

bruce is a 6'1 tight end with 30 inch t-rex arms and 4.85 speed. he wont make the roster. :smh:  sucks but its the new-age football. fullbacks are going the ways of the dinosaurs.
Sports goes in cycles. Take basketball for example, the game transitioned to Iso ball in the late 90s until recently. The Spurs and Warriors have brought back the concept of proper spacing and passing. Fullbacks will be the same way, there's going to be a lot of subpackages for the next few years but then some team will come up with the concept of running out of the I.
