Organizing iTunes (help me!)

What's in that Forgotten Gems folder?

I can't get with Grid view. It's not clean easy enough to browse songs.

Yea for the general Music library I don't use the grid. Just for some playlist do I use that view.

"Forgotten Gems" is a smart playlist. It has live updating so it's always changing. Like I said it keeps things fresh

Name > Time > Artist > Comments > Album > Year > Genre > Bit Rate > Kind > Play Count

I sort by Artist and have all feat. artists in the comment box so it doesn't mess up my iTunes/iPhone... looks ugly after the artist nameand can get really long after a song name so found the best compromise is to place it in the comment box.

I am very picky about my iTunes and look up all the back covers for the albums I have and input the song names and feat. artists exactly how they appear on theback of the cover or in the booklet (booklet preferred if I have access to it) with the exception of the word feat. which is the same on allsongs that require it... not Feat. or Featuring etc.

I manually google all covers on google for high quality scans of 700x700 or higher and resize all to 712x708, if not I don't even bother with the albumcover with low quality picture and leave it blank.

No multiple/sub genres... for example: only Hip Hop/Rap not Hip Hop, Hip-Hop, Rap, Gangsta Rap, etc.
Only Metal not Heavy Metal, Metal, etc.
Only Rock not Rock, Classic Rock, New Rock, etc.

Soundtracks/Compilations have Part of a compilation option checked

Singles: album name is Song Name - Single

All my ripped CD's are AAC 256 kbps (VBR) and all my downloaded albums I try to find LAME/MP3 v2 vbr (I'm pretty sure this is the standard right nowfor most rips, if not someone correct me) or 320 cbr if vbr can't be found... a few songs are 192 cbr or 128 cbr that I just can't find with higherquality.

I have over 16 GB of music and as soon as I add new music I start the renaming process...

How do you get where you have the genres, artists and albums above where your music is?

An organized iTunes is a must for me.

Everything from Album artwork, sorting, you name it... has to be organized.

Features go in the song title for me... I don't like the look of it next to the artist on iTunes & all the extra name son my iPod.

The album a song is on is very important too, whether I put it under "freestyles", "unreleased", or even "Misc." Everything hasto be perfect.

I've downloaded a whole album due to liking 1 song... but neverguilty of a discography for that.

I have album covers for the vast majority of the albums on my iTunes. In addition to the aforementioned, all of my songs are organized by artist, album, genre, year, and hand rated (quality > quantity). I don't have any duplicate songs (with exception to live/acousticversions of select songs).

Here's a list of all of my songs: http://www.last.fm/user/dwells4life

Sorry if this has been answered....Can I move my library to an external HD and still keep my iTunes intact? Can only listen when the external is plugged in?What happens when I unplug the external? (does it just say "song file not found" or do they dissapear from itunes until I re-connect the external?)

Removing 60gb of music from my internal HD would be

I use anywhere between 500x500 or 600x600 or just dump in a high-res scan of the art.

I have a very disorganized iTunes. I did add album art but I didn't bother fixing the genres, years, and all that other stuff. I could theoretically tryto organize it when I have my winter break but I think I'll live.

Yeah, I just did the same thing. I was worried about it too but it works FLAWLESSLY. iTunes pretty much does all the work for you. I googled tonsof sites, info, and videos but this one right here was the BEST BY FAR. Easiest, best way for sure.

I forget who asked but the genre/artist/album bars on top are "column broswers". You can find/edit them under the view option in iTunes.

I can't even begin to recommend music. I need to know what you like/what sound you're looking for. PM me if anybody wants to.

NT help me. I want to add more music to my ipod. Genre doesnt matter really because I listen to almost anything. I saw dwell's list but I would like more. Anyone help me out here? Thanks fam.

Checkout the ROCK Thread in the music forum. Lots of Good bands in there.

FLAC files really worth it? I asked earlier but didn't get a response.

iTunes X gonna be a big change anybody think?

If you are looking to get into different music, join last.fm. Alot of people all around the globe that are huge music fans.

not helping here but the Zune software will automatically update album info, and they will correctly name and find the album art. It's something toconsider.
