As someone who has a lightweight addiction to scratch-offs I hope I get to make a similar thread one day soon.

Congrats OP. What was the process like of claiming your winnings?
 
The 25% is to cover the minimum possible you could be taxed on winnings. It doesn't take into account your actual taxable income and tax bracket at the end of the year.

That's why when you file your taxes you're likely to pay additional taxes unless your combined income is in the same tax bracket that the lottery winnings were taxed at.
