leave em alone...these morons subsribed to the mad rapper's way of selling records "its my 4th albumyo, my 4th album i ain't made a dime YET!...big his joint was cool but MY JOINT is more john blaze then that!!!"

LAD is great, but overrated. Real overrated. Album didn't capture me the way 'Ready To Die' did. That's why I fail to see how BIG was thegreatest. I mean, dude was one of the most talented MC's but people praise him for what he could've been, instead of accepting him for what he was. Will always be a big fan though.

I have to know the age of the people saying LAD don't go hard. The lyrics, concepts, delivery, flow, stories, swag, detail, ad-libs, and the damnproduction has still not been achieved by ANYTHING that has come out since. Close to a perfect album as you'll get, and thats a fact jack.

and on top of that, its a double album!...

only person close to ever coming out with a hot double album was Nas...until the bootlegged....

Why the hell does age matter? Do you people think before you post? You're acting like LAD is the greatest thing that happened to Hip Hop.

I've said it before, there is a gang of filler on this double disk.
I'll take Forever before LAD. "Black Shampoo" is the only track I truly dislike on the album.
LAD, I could name more than a few.

But honestly, I think the way people praise this album is a prime example for those who say he is held in a higher regard BECAUSE he died. To take it a step further if he hadn't died when he did....he probably would have kept goin down this path...Puff wasn't about to lose any money to appease the streets and BIG wasn't either. So my question is...if BIG possibly the best ever can be commercial why is it a sin for any other rapper to do so?

Apparently BIG was planning a 3 disc album titled Born Again. The premise was supposed to be if he had never gotten rich like he was still back in the hood.

And concerning LAD, it's half pop-half street and is still better than every other album in your collection just off the singles alone.

The thing is these dudes are "elitist" by NT standards but the real hip hop elitist, like on sites where music is actually discussed, I've seenthose kind of n_'s rip LAD to shreds.

You got a couple guys saying they would take off Player Hater, Another, and Nasty Boy and someone else says something about LAD aint no top ten album and thesedudes throw a fit.

I guess the artist making the songs to serve a purpose is being overshadowed by certain individuals NOT liking it, I guess he should've sent out his roughdrafts to all the NT A&Rs so you guys could've helped him out . . . I still can't grasp how people can fix their face to hate on an actual HIP HOPalbum with grade A lyrics, grade A production that sold 10 million units(Certified Diamond), and joins ONE other album in 30 some odd years of hip hop to do so. . .

Ns is sayin they'd take off the #1 hits

did any of you idiots LISTEN to the interview at the end of disc one?? He damn near explained EVERYthingyou guys are questioning him about, so how in 2009 is this $#!# an issue?? I mean he even talks about it in the actual songs, I'm convinced a FEW peoplehaven't REALLY listened to what the N is sayin . . .

And Life After Death mops the floor with Wu Tang Forever, and I love that album also, but its not even close, he lyrically out does ALL 9 of them with disc ONEalone . . .

FIRST OF ALL, i never said I didn't like the album...nor that it wasn't good music. I just said it's commercial. And top 10 ever?
roll.gif
No. Stop that. I love the album...but top 10...ever...like out of all the albumsmade in hip hop history you can't think of 10 that are better? Wow. This proves exactly what I posted OP.....people hold this album in a higher regardBECAUSE he died. Lets look at an album...like...BP2, since it also was a double disc. It's JUST as commercial yet that album is terrible because it has"too much filler"
eyes.gif
. I could sit here with the straightest faceever and say it's not that far off. Of course then I'd be flamed to no end because I'm essentially saying that one of Jay's middle of the road(by NT standards) albums is close to a top ten album of all time. When actually if you were to listen to both albums back to back....and have no priorknowledge of who is who etc, you'd probably say the exact same thing. LAD is better but not THAT much better....but it won't ever be seen like thatbecause....it's BIG plain and simple. At the same time Jay will get blasted for having too much filler....that's ridiculous IMO.

So we're comparing BP2 to Life After Death now....eh?

what is wrong with you people? LAD is the blueprint of all modern rapalbums.

You really didnt just compare LAD to BP2 did you? Cmon bruh

And I was one of the biggest Jay fans from 96-03.... To compare those 2 albums is just ridiculous

LAD is THAT much better... But miles

Minus the 3 songs bolded pick another commercial song on this lp???

Furthermore minus the 3 songs italicized I'd like somebody to point out the filler in this lp???

I guess we don't hear things the same this day and age, for this album to be called commercial and subpar yet lps like the Bluepring are considered tobe masterpieces is just disgusting to me. I'm in no way shape or form an elitest, I just see any logic to these statements. You take the 3 songs Iitalicized off this album and it satisfies every single level of hip hop artistry at a level thats beyond excellent.

I honest to god do not know what the hell those who have a distaste for this lp are listening to. Seriously, I find myself in a state of utter confusionreading this *#!@. Extremely perplexed

Just reiterating some poitns that have already been made:

Commercial in 1997 isn't the same as commercial now. There are guys now making rap records that have no connection to hip-hop - never honed skills in acipher, don't know the history of the culture, making up personal stories to sell records. BIG never had that connection to commercialism. I'll neverknock a lyricist, DJ, or producer with real skills for making a record that appeals to a massive audience.

I also don't think LAD is a perfect album. I'd certainly pare this down to one disc, and it wouldn't really be dominated by either 'street'or 'commercial' tracks. I think BIG gets a 'pass' because he died with so much potential. I'm not going to knock a 24-year-old kid (albeitone who saw a lot and had a unique insight) for making commercial missteps. Would he have become more like Em - his skills devolving into a commerciallyhardcore mutation that couldn't be sustained? A Jay or Nas - some definite garbage in the interest of mass appeal, but enough of a catalog to be hailed asone of the past and present greats? A two-album wonder? Those questions arising from his death make LAD all the more intriguing.

Oh don't get it twisted Cross... Its not filler to me word to "YOU @+%#$*$ FOOOOOOOOOOL!!!"

but I was crossing out one of the few that people have voice cynicism about, thats all bro

i dunno why u even IMPLYING that those were fillers cuz they were commericals...don't let these wannabee young still wet behind the ears dragyou down to there level...they'll

beat you wit experience....

lemme make this clear, commerical records don't mean they're wack records...cuz i remember 10 crack commandments getting nonstop airplay when itdropped and thats supposedly a "album cut"

big got a pass because he did it well

life after death is one of the best albums ever

nobody has really mastered the art of being street and commercial at the same time since

jay has come the closest since

listening to life after death, i don't think, "damn, this $%%$ is mad commercial"

he did it right on that album and he showed progress from ready to die

while most rappers stay on the same $%%$ for 10 years

once he got money, he began rapping about different things and had a different mentality

r.i.p.

G... It just kills me to hear someone try to defame this lp when some %@#% like The Carter is hailed as a work of art.

never seen that one.

word....commercial success is not bad, it's not like BIG changed to make those records....the style is still there.
