Imagine if there had been a trans Pacific slave trade and the sugar and cotton and tobacco wealth of the Americas had been built by enslaved Asian labor. Imagine that after 1965, we allowed in investors, professionals and social and political elites from West Africa.
We'd have white folks holding up Africans as the model minority and contrasting them with the poor, over policed and socially unstable descendants of the enslaved Asians. Certain sons of Nigerian and Senegalese emerges would internalize that rhetoric and cite out of context or outright bogus statistics "proving" that Asians are innately thriftless, shiftless and criminal.
History and social scientific forces are powerful things and so many people refuse to understand that.
