MLB has no max contract lengths like the NBA. On an annual basis he's *only* making $24m (14 years/$340m). to put things in perceptive, 14 year long supermax NBA contract would be around $600m.

What's absurd is giving him 14 years. 14 years of guaranteed money just doesn't make sense. He's only 22 years old but committing to any player for 14 years is a recipe for disaster. None of these 10+year long deals look good by end of them.
 
Interesting how some of the bad teams are more entertaining than the good ones this season

given the time value of money, those 20+ Ms in the later years will be a "bargain"
a lot of these contracts are backloaded, which helps the teams
