5 Ridiculous Things You Probably Believe About Islam *WARNING*: Substantial Amount of Words

Only fully read number one, but stopped after that, for one burqas are a cultural thing not a religious thing, but the fact that they used France as their example of how few muslims wear it there is ******ed seeing as France made it illegal to do so....

Didn't find any pint readying any of the other things I probably believe, since don't actually believe any of them.

i think you missed a few things there. the point is that people think that all muslim women wear burqas, so they used france as a great example because burqas were a large issue for a while in france. france passed the law banning burqas in june/july 2010, as the link in the article shows (http://articles.cnn.com/2010-09-14/...t-religious-symbols-ban-last-year?_s=PM:WORLD). the survey to see how many women actually wore burqas (also cited in the article http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/w...l=1&adxnnlx=1312125426-2YeWQ/LfjH2Wmw1tdef15A) is from 2009, before it was illegal to wear burqas. the point being, the issue of burqas and how common they are was such a big issue in france that they actually made it illegal, when in fact only a tiny percentage of the population was wearing them prior to the banning. therefore, not "******ed," as you so eloquently put it.
anyway, great article. i love cracked.com. always has very interesting and funny articles.

For every country that is governed by Islamic law that is "stuck in the dark ages" I can show you a predominantly christian country that is also "stuck in the middle ages."

How ethnocentric are you? To label any country that isn't in accord with your western ideals of how a country should be run, be labeled as stuck in middle ages.

My man, there is more than one way to govern people/run a country.

It's all well and good that the armies did so "humanely", but it doesn't change their intent.

Not trying to discredit the entire post, as the other 4 myths are indeed ridiculous, but still should be noted.

Really it's just Islamaphobic Americans that believe these things about Islam. In my experience, they are usually Conservative Christians. I'm actually reading the Qur'an now to learn more about the religion because I know very little about it aside from the stereotypes and the ignorant claims.

i have one question ... isn't islam the only major religion to explicitly approve inflicting harm on another human being in the name of spreading islam? ... o ok ...

The Old Testament is filled with inflicting harm on others in the name of god.

It is believed that you can't fully understand the message of the Qur'an unless read in Arabic, yeah. I'm not reading it for the sake of worship, I'm reading it for the sake of understanding the general beliefs of the religion. It would be absurd on their part to suggest that I can't possible understand the general meaning of their religion because I'm reading a translation.

Using violence as a means to gain followers is not condoned in any other religion except islam ...

i just can't rock with the "islamic apologists" who fight tooth and nail to make islam look better in the eyes of Americans  ... fact is, they stone their women to death if they cheat on their husbands ... they allow kids to blow themselves up in the name of allah ... they firmly believe there will be virgins waiting for them if they die for a just cause in allah's eyes ...

i'm not trying to say you shouldn't be muslim or christianity is better ... but it just doesn't make sense to me when you have to explain away a thousand different practices ... o they are true muslims, o they aren't true muslims, o they follow muhammed, o they dont follow muhammed ...

fact is, there are some cold blooded chirstians who wouldnt think twice about dropping a nuke on a country full of muslims ... fact is, there are some cold blooded muslims who wouldnt think twice about dropping a nuke on a country for of christians ... difference is, christians aren't raising their children to blow themselves up in order to kill the people they hate ...

But violence is used throughout the Bible, so I don't really see any difference. God constantly slays those that sin against him in the Old Testament.

The reason is that not every Muslim believes in using violence. You can't generalize all Muslims based on the actions of some.

This is a huge problem with any religion. I think the fact that so many interpretations exist invalidates their claims. Was god incompetent in conveying his message? Is god too incompetent to correct our misunderstanding of his message? Why were these religions revealed in very specific languages? These are the sorts of questions I would expect these believers to ask.

And again, not all Muslims are raising their children to blow people up. Plenty of Christians raise their children to hate. It's no different. Just take a look at the American response to Islam, especially after 9/11 took place.
