Any NYC heads can confirm apartments this cheap exist? Not that I’m looking to move into one but that’s a damn good deal. This is a year old but still.

Not even the hood is that cheap; you can find people looking for roommates, offering a room (in a 3 bedroom ) for around that price

    "It's not that bad"

I'll take "Lies People Tell Themselves to Cope with Misery" for $800, Alex.

Don't see how anyone lives like this. I would either cough up the extra money and struggle a little more/pick up a part-time job or just move into a cheaper neighborhood.

    I'm claustrophobic so hell no.

Stole all this land from Native Americans just to live in a refrigerator box. I don't understand.

    Definitely.

I have a friend in nyc. Who’s apartment is rent controlled. The apartment was passed down from her grandmother. 3 bedroom apartment in Manhattan. I can’t remember how much was the rent but it wasn’t over $500.
She told me other units in building are $2000+ and the building is old as hell. No elevators

Native new Yorkers in rent controlled apartments ain't ever leaving. I give it 5 years until theirs some new laws/policy so the gentrification can get ramped back up
