If GM declares bankruptcy though, will they have to liquidate all their assets and basically sell their cars for dirt cheap? I'm not familiar with autoindustry bankruptcy and how they go about selling their cars.

Once the cars are at the dealerships, that means GM already sold them. At that point, it's up to whoever owns that particular dealership to sell them. Theonly thing that GM might do is wholesale all their left overs at a reduced price... but then whether you get a discount on the retail price or not depends onyour local dealer.
