Brb, looking through page 300 of the thread where we do nothing but objectify women.

Stop reaching, they're the ones who willing take the photos. They're objectifying themselves.

I'm not going to waste my Saturday getting into a philosophical debate over this.

Any degree of organization requires us to accept imperfectly defined abstractions. We can generally agree regarding what constitutes "blue" and "red," but these are nonetheless arbitrary categories. You could spend eternity arguing that, because no one can specify the EXACT point at which blue and red become purple, the categories themselves therefore hold no meaning and the concept of grouping various wavelengths into broad color categories is pointless. You can problematize literally any categorical distinction - including something as "absolute" as quantification. Claiming that you have five fingers on each hand involves an underlying assumption with regard to the identification of discrete units. "What about people who lost a finger below the knuckle? Does that count as a whole finger? A quarter of a finger? WHERE WILL THE MADNESS END!?!?!"

Look, we've accepted the responsibility of managing a very large online community. To function, we have to operate in a very pragmatic fashion. NikeTalk couldn't operate at all if I had to sit here and endlessly debate every single decision. This is getting ridiculous.

We've NEVER allowed trolling on NikeTalk. That doesn't mean that no user in the history of the board has ever gotten away with it, but it's against the spirit of our policy.

People are intentionally using a term to irritate other users.  That's what trolling is.  I don't want to hear all this "they're just words" nonsense because, if that's the case, then NOTHING matters and it's just one miserable free for all.  We've had that board (NikePark) and it's EXACTLY the reason why NikeTalk was created.  If you want a forum with no rules, join one. That's not what NikeTalk is about.

The problem is that you guys aren't looking at this as an extension of an existing rule, but as a "new" rule that's taking away a "freedom" you once enjoyed. You NEVER had the right to troll our forums. Whatever legitimacy the use of this term MAY have enjoyed - that argument is now dead. It's OBVIOUS how people are using it now. They're using it to troll and we have to respond to that. Everyone is willing to agree that it's obnoxious so see the same childish jokes run into the ground and watching kids endlessly regurgitate the same punchlines. That's the case here, but it's not just an annoying gif - but a loaded term that's being ROUTINELY used to engage in race baiting.

In that sense, it's even worse than the infantile NY>LA nonsense.  If you think YOU'RE the exception and that YOU'RE using it in a witty, clever way that others aren't, you're only lying to yourself.  You're just as annoying.

If you're gonna whine and pout because you think you deserve the "right" to annoy others, just leave already.  Nobody here will mourn your loss and I hope the irony of complaining about people being "extra sensitive" isn't lost on you when you're up in arms over something as trivial as the ability to troll on a message board.

It's a judgment call.  We're not going to come to a unanimous decision on this with all 80,000 of our unique visitors today.  When we do something as hard to complain about as giving our ad revenue away to charity, people still find reasons to gripe about that.  It's not realistic to expect that you'll agree with every single decision that gets made here, but that doesn't negate our right to make decisions affecting the community.  At the end of the day, somebody has to make the call.  I think what this really boils down to is that a lot of you are just salty because you're not the one making the decision and, if that's the case, you have the freedom to change that.  You can start your own board.  We do better than most.  We'll sit here and discuss everything, explain the rationale, answer questions, and practically coddle users about every little change and that's STILL not going to be enough for some of you - and, in those cases, nothing short of giving you dictatorial power over the whole of the community would satisfy you.  Unfortunately, if you want to be a part of NikeTalk you'll just have to suck it up and accept the fact that, although we read and value all of the feedback we receive, we're not obligated to act on ALL of it - nor CAN we, because much of it is contradictory.  What you want, someone else doesn't want.  By visiting NIKETALK instead of some other community, you're accepting the leadership team that we have in place.  If you accept a scholarship to play ball at Georgetown, you should expect to run the Princeton offense and accept Coach Thompson's vision of the team.  You can have some say, but someone has to make the final call and if you can't live with that then you need to find a situation where you can be a player/coach.  The game isn't going to stop because you're not 100% satisfied with the play that was drawn up on the sideline.

Back in the fall of 1999, we started our own message board because we were willing to accept the hard work and responsibility associated with managing safe, friendly, respectful forums where our fellow sports/sneaker fans could communicate without dealing with all of the petty insults, racist hate speech, pornography, impostors, and so on that plagued the anarchic message boards of that time.  If you want a forum without rules, go visit a forum without rules.  That's not our mission at NikeTalk.

TruthGetsSensitive won't be posting in this thread anymore. Or he's gonna post some bs trying to justify why he said it
