another race thread: white privledge

If we want to improve race relations in this country, the oppressor should stop acting like the oppressed and own up to their mistakes. White privilege does not benefit all and is not the sole factor of success for whites, but to deny its presence is irresponsible.

And that President has been disrespected like no other President ever has before in the history of the United States.

He has been but let's no act like people weren't going in on Bush regularly. The difference is Bush deserved it.

I have no problem with anyone critiquing, questioning, disagreeing, etc. with the President but the BS they throw at Obama is absurd.

"He wasn't born here."

"He's the Anti-Christ!"

"He's a Socialist"

Just read up on that, never even knew before or even taught about this and I'm a History major.

And while messed up, I don't recall the Irish going through the same things that their fellow former slave counterparts of African decent go through.......Which is a clear example of white privilege.

The Irish were in this country for hundreds of years before they were even considered white.

And Fontaine can change the argument now that he's been proven wrong, but history shows that blacks weren't the only chattle slaves in America.

Obama's done a ****** job as president, there's no way to deny that, but the ignorant comments folks make, about his birth, socialism, etc. are unnecessary. Having said that, the man hasn't done enough to improve this country like many of us thought he would.

the **** are you talking about?

Find somewhere where I said Black people were the only slaves in America?

Dudes pretending like it's a pissing contest on who had it "as bad as black's"

Dudes kill me with trying to bring every other thing under the sun in for comparison sake.

Were black people the only slaves? No

Were Irish stripped of their language and religion? No

Were black people allowed to assimilate into the white power structure? No

Smh.

Talks about African slaves

"But these people were slaves" "but African people sold Africans". "But slavery and racism is over"

The high expectations might be it but I voted for this guy twice cause I thought he would get us out of the Middle East and help usher in peace. Either way it doesn't matter, the guy had his hands full and not many people could've succeeded when he entered office.

We were never getting out of the Middle East in 8 years when we've consistently been in and out of there for almost 40 years. Even if by the next term we're completely out 7-9 years after we'll be right back in with another conflict dealing with another group or tyrant.

This is unfortunately true.

I feel like a lot of our enemies rise up from the dumb stuff we do.

Drones are a touchy subject. On the surface, it's better to have less of your men in danger, but some of these horror stories about the drones blowing up schools and what not rub one the wrong way.

The economy....eh, Idk how sustainable all this is heading forward. While we didn't completely collapse, we've added a lot of debt and the Fed has done a lot of dangerous stuff that could bite us in the future. It was a tough situation all around though so I guess it was a lose-lose situation to begin with.

I don't like the term "White Privilege", I would say it's more like "Class Privilege".
Here's the thing though: do lower class white people have their own set of obstacles to overcome? Of course.  Do black people of similar status have those same exact obstacles AND a ton of others that the whites of similar status don't have to deal with as much (if at all)?  Absolutely.

It would be disingenuous to say that poor whites have it just as hard as poor blacks.

I'm white, if that matters.

this man deserves more reps. there doesn't need to be a thread debating this. i wish more within the white community (american society in general) who understood this. if you gotta debate it...:{ >D

as a minority, the one thing i truly hate about white people, it's that passive aggressive racism, ive only seen white people do it, never to your face or flagrant.. it's always a perfectly contrived phrase or statement where you can't tell if it's racism or concern

'can i help you'
'are you lost?'
'new around here?'
'you would know that'
'nope not around these parts'

etc.. it's like theyre not calling you the n-word or s-word.. but literally just waving the letter in your face

im hispanic ive never been called a S-word, but I can recall plenty of times where ive felt some racism

Asians (specifically Chinese, Japanese and Koreans) make more money then whites in North America but most of them hit a glass ceiling and can never rise to the higher positions in a company

Obama is the probably the worst President we've ever had. Even then he still isn't lambasted by the media like Bush was and still is. He has the entirety of Hollywood and the news on his side. Calling him a socialist is far from ridiculous. He was best buddies with Bill Ayers, was described by friends and professors as subscribing heavily to socialist ideals, he rammed Obamacare, a socialist program, down the throats of Americans who did not want it, and he consistently and brazenly overuses and threatens to overuse his executive power, all the while diverting and deflecting blame to Bush. Its a miracle he isn't king Obama yet. Dude is a clown and he deserves his criticism.

Asians and Blacks have affirmative action. They are the ones who are privileged. Whites tend to have more experience that's why they are more likely to get the job.

Why was affirmative action needed to be created?

Why aren't we talking about Asian privilege? They are more educated and make more money than any race in America.
