  • Calvin Ushery Jr., 39, has been indicted on six felonies and one misdemeanor in connection with a brutal attack against a Korean American jewelry store owner in Wilmington, Delaware, on Sept. 15.
  • Security footage of the incident shows a masked man pistol-whipping and repeatedly stomping on the 68-year-old victim’s head.
  • Reports say the suspect also repeatedly bashed the victim’s head with a hammer.
  • If convicted, Ushery — who was also reported to be a repeat offender — could spend eight to 107 years in prison.

  • The film will be released in select theaters on Dec. 2.

NYC man accused of attacking boy with crutch has 23 prior arrests, including attempted murder​


  • Jamal McIlwain, 28, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the assault of a 12-year-old Asian boy in Brooklyn on the morning of Nov. 17.
  • Surveillance footage of the attack shows a man running toward the young victim and striking him with a single crutch twice.
  • The boy, who suffered minor head injuries, was on his way to school when the attack occurred at the intersection of St. Paul’s Court and St. Paul’s Place in Flatbush, according to reports.
  • McIlwain, who was arraigned on multiple charges on Friday, claimed that he worked for “NCIS,” which is understood to be a CBS crime drama.
  • Reports say McIlwain has 23 prior arrests, including a case of attempted murder.
  • The judge ordered that McIlwain be held without bail and requested for psychiatric evaluation.

2 men charged with hate crimes for back-to-back anti-Asian incidents in Washington state​


  • A pair of men have been charged with hate crimes in connection with two separate anti-Asian incidents in Washington state earlier this month.
  • William D. Simonson was charged with second-degree attempted assault and a hate crime after allegedly shoving a 16-year-old Asian girl into traffic while yelling anti-Asian slurs in Bellevue on Nov. 3.
  • Anthony J. Ransford was charged with second-degree assault and a hate crime after making anti-Asian remarks and headbutting an Asian student and breaking his nose in Seattle on Nov. 8.
  • The incidents were brought to light by independent journalist Jonathan Choe, who himself received anti-Asian remarks last week from a woman he was trying to interview after she was filmed hurling anti-Asian comments at a Seattle gas station.

Woman charged with hate crime for calling man ‘Asian pig’, assaulting him on NYC subway​


  • Dream Commisso, 19, has been charged with a hate crime for her alleged role in the assault of a 42-year-old Asian man on a Manhattan subway on Nov. 19.
  • Commisso, a man and another woman allegedly made anti-Asian remarks while ordering the victim and his female companion — who is also Asian — to give up their seats.
  • When the pair refused, the perps reportedly began to kick and punch the male victim, resulting in a small cut to his head.
  • Commisso’s accomplices remain at large, and anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

‘Go back to China’: Massachusetts driver charged for ramming Asian man 200 yards into ditch​


  • John Sullivan, 77, has been slammed with multiple charges after allegedly hitting and dragging an Asian man with his car in Quincy, Massachusetts, on Friday.
  • The victim, who was walking with his sister and her three children, first called out Sullivan for allegedly speeding on the street.
  • Sullivan allegedly threatened to kill the entire family before ultimately ramming his vehicle into the victim.
  • According to the victim’s sister, he was dragged clinging to the hood for about 200 yards before Sullivan stopped the car and tossed him into a construction ditch 10 to 15 feet deep.
  • The victim sustained multiple minor injuries but declined medical attention.
  • Sullivan is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Wednesday.

Repeat offender pleads guilty to killing Guiying Ma in NYC rock attack​


  • Elisaul Perez, 33, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with the fatal rock attack on 62-year-old Guiying Ma in Queens, New York City, on Nov. 26, 2021.
  • Ma was sweeping outside her home when Perez, a homeless man, allegedly picked up a large rock and struck her twice in the head.
  • The Chinese immigrant, who suffered brain bleeding and other injuries, was in a medically-induced coma until her death on Feb. 22.
  • Perez is set to be sentenced on Jan. 10 to 20 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
The Brooklyn man accused of killing Guiying Ma in a Queens rock attack over a year ago has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, prosecutors said on Thursday.
 

Second suspect arrested in fatal road rage shooting of Dallas community leader​


  • Kameron Taylor, 28, was arrested on Friday for his alleged role in the murder of Dallas business owner and community leader Jin Shin on Aug. 15.
  • Shin, 43, was driving along South University Drive when his Jeep and a sedan got involved in a minor collision.
  • Several vehicles then pulled up at the scene, one of which included his alleged shooter, Markynn Dmorous West, as a passenger.
  • West, 28, was arrested on Sept. 7 and indicted on Dec. 7 on a murder charge.
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an Asian American business owner and community leader in Dallas.
 

Las Vegas man sentenced for shooting Chinatown waiter 11 times​


  • Rashawn Gaston-Anderson, 24, was sentenced on Monday to seven-to-18 years in prison for shooting Las Vegas Chinatown restaurant worker Chengyan Wang on Dec. 20, 2021.
  • Wang, a Chinese migrant worker, was deep-cleaning Shanghai Taste in the 4200 block of Spring Mountain Road when Gaston-Anderson broke in to rob the place.
  • The victim survived after being shot 11 times, seven of which were critical hits.
  • Gaston-Anderson pleaded guilty last month to felony mayhem and attempted robbery with a weapon in connection with the incident.
  • Wang said the incident continues to haunt him at night and that he is still undergoing physical therapy.
A man who repeatedly shot a restaurant worker in Las Vegas’ Chinatown last year has been sentenced to seven-to-18 years in prison.
 

Elderly woman kicked in stomach on SF Muni bus: ‘As an Asian American, I don’t feel safe’​


  • A 79-year-old woman was kicked in the stomach while boarding a San Francisco Muni bus on her way to work on Dec. 3.
  • The victim, identified only as Lisa, recalled the harrowing incident in an interview with ABC7 News’ Dion Lim.
  • Lisa, who is Indonesian, has worked for nearly 30 years in concessions for the Giants, 49ers and Warriors, Lim reported.
  • So far, police have not found evidence that the incident was a hate crime.
  • The incident follows an increase in assaults in the Muni system amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
San Francisco police are looking for a man who kicked a 79-year-old Indonesian woman in the stomach on a Muni bus earlier this month.

  • Randi Barr, 41, pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property.
  • The charge comes in connection with a series of burglaries targeting Asian homeowners in multiple Northeastern states between December 2016 and March 2019.
  • Barr is among eight suspects accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, jewelry, firearms and other valuable items.
  • A co-conspirator previously stated that they targeted Asian homeowners because “it was believed that the victims kept large sums of currency and jewelry in their residences.”
  • Barr faces up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines, or twice the amount of money involved in the offense, whichever is greater.

Threw their lives away for a bottle of booze that's probably less than $100.
 
I don't even know how some of these families deal with this. Something like this happening to my mom or grandmother I would be ready to burn down the world.
