im getting into fishing and i need a rod. any recommendations for rod, bait, reel, etc

If you're just getting into fishing get something like a Shakespeare rod and reel set. They don't cost much, and they're semi-decent. What baityou use depends on what body of water you're fishing in and what you're fishing for. For hooks I suggest Eagle Claw.

depending on where and what your fishing, just head over to fisherman's warehouse or an other fishing stores and ask them

Sounded crazy to me too but the funds go into preserving water fields ect....makes sense
I almost got ticketed last summer but the cop gave me a break.
Got my license from Kmart.... but you can get it at nearly all places that sell fishing gear.
The license cost me $20 I believe...not sure if it varies according to states.

i didn't know you needed a license either till i went out to a lake with my dad a couple months ago. and he said i had to go get a license

stay with shimano reels-they are not that expensive and they are high quality and shakespeare rods

There is one.... don't remember exactly though. My GF's sister did not have to get one and she's 14 maybe?

If you have a Cabela's or Gander Mountain store near you, go and browse a little. Most of the guys that work at those places are enthusiats, they will giveyou a bunch of help, just because they want to introduce new people to the sport. Once you know about what you want to spend, a lot of times you can findreally good deals at Academy or Big5. You can get something like this for a decent price from Cabela's. Fishing is like any other hobby. You don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money, the main thing is to learn how to use your equipmentcorrectly, and how to take care of it. A cheap, well taken care of rig will provide you plenty quality fishing trips.
I've been fishing with my dad since I can remember. Most of my fishing these days comes from trips to Mexico for bass fishing. I've gotten to the pointwhere I prefer a baitcasting reel. My favorite is an older Shimano Chronarch. I usually use either a Lighting Rod or Series One rod from Berkley. I don'treally buy anything else, I usually just use whatever my dad throws my way. He is one of those over the top people who is always buying new hooks, line, jigs,etc.
