I mean I get a basic education, and a mechanical education (anything that grants you a tangible skill, from woodworking to nuerosurgery). But the more I read, the more I learn, the more I form my own ideas, I'm starting to think actually learning stuff, understanding how the world works makes you an outcast. You sound like a dbag always "correcting" people. People feel the need to argue all the time. If you have actually have your own opinion, people look at you like a weirdo. And overall, having your own ideas about the way the world works, based on experience, information, knowledge you've obtained, quiet contemplation etc. makes you sound like a crazy person.

What exactly is the point of "being educated" you relate to people a lot better if you just follow pop culture, copy and paste your ideas from popular blogs and get your general identity from whatever the people around you think.

In a lot of cases I've encountered first hand, I notice that a lot of "smart" people are miserable; burdened by their thoughts. Inversely, a lot of "dumb" people seem as though they live in bliss.

My coworker has 2 master degree's and 50k in debt. Works with me at this part time seasonal job making couple dollars above minimum wage. He's kind of weird, quiet, and talks to himself a lot. My other coworkers joke to each other about being on his good side just in case one of those days come shooting the place up or sumtin lol.

I was debating with a friend a few weeks ago about some trivial topic. One of his friend sighs and said "what's the point in any argument? We all die one day"

It's something we're all mindful of, but ignore the significance of the statement. I've been trying to remind myself of it lately. Everytime I get angry over something insubstantial, I say it.

Honestly, once I realized "we'll all die one day" coupled with "no one is actually right, because there is no actual right or wrong, just different opinions/viewpoints" My life completely changed. I felt freer to think on my own. But thinking on your own is very dangerous in any macro/micro society.

naaaaah bro.

i'm not reading this.

idk what to tell y'all honestly.

knowledge about the world and how it works and so on allows you to maneuver through it with more confidence and generally more success.

i can't believe that's being debated.

like really? what's the point of being knowledgable about an array of things? really?

and dude saying you fit in better following pop culture?? :rollin

being educated =/= being socially awkward and a lame. you just socially awkward and a lame (not you in particular OP)

but whatever. knowledge is power is real. ignorance is bliss is also real...do with that info what you will.

but i see the problem.

y'all don't have what's called tact.

deal with each situation/person as they come.

if you chillin, smoking you don't have to go in being a smart *** or whatever...just chill and smoke.

if you having an intelligent conversation then pull out that knowledge.

if you're in business situations then pull out that knowledge.

:lol this is mind blowing man.

y'all dudes a different breed

Exactly. There really is a balance..if you so choose to achieve it.

I disagree. If anything it increases the span of topics and information you can talk about. If you're well versed on various cultures and history for example, it can help you converse with people from other countries/cultures.

You sound like a dbag always "correcting" people. People feel the need to argue all the time. If you have actually have your own opinion, people look at you like a weirdo.

Simply being studied or "educated" doesn't mean you have to always correct people when they're wrong or constantly argue. That's less to do with someone being educated and more to do with their personality. Educated or not you will find people who are augmentative. Besides, theres a time and place for everything. Having debates on things every now and then isn't a bad thing. Its all about balance, theres a time for everything. I personally find that some people will have preconceived notions about a person that they know is intelligent and will in turn project their own insecurities onto them(causing them to view said person as pretentious). When really they're just as chill and into having a good time as they are.

And overall, having your own ideas about the way the world works, based on experience, information, knowledge you've obtained, quiet contemplation etc. makes you sound like a crazy person.

I disagree. While having views that strongly oppose common conceptions people have can make you seem unusual or a "weirdo", I'd say the person who views anyone who doesn't share their views as a crazy person is being close minded themselves. This too ties into what personality type you are. In our culture its my opinion that seeking knowledge and understanding isn't as important as being social and meshing with other people. Being extroverted, confident and assertive is held in high regard, while in other cultures being soft spoken and humble is preferred. Again, its about balance. Things are not also so black and white, there are many shades of grey people neglect.

The ultimate goal for everyone isn't necessarily to get on with people to the best of their ability bar anything else though. While there are social and even financial aspects to being able to do this its not the end all be all. Being introverted and calculated instead of being extroverted and spontaneous is not a bad thing. Its simply different.

Yeah I think that's a big deal.. I feel this way and I'm pretty sure others do also, when you know a lot you most likely have a chip on your shoulder all the time, you're forever bothered by something. Politics, religion, educational system, poverty, racism, war, greed, certain theories(Intelligent design, big bang,) etc... Some people never think about any of this stuff and they are as happy as can be..

families living in huts in Africa that are happier than millionaires...live life by what makes you happy...if success makes you happy, go for it...if you want success solely because of the splendors they bring in, you're gonna be mad lost when the novelty wears off...

find out what you want to do in life, get the education needed to get to that spot. education is to help you be a better person, after highschool you can pretty much pick and choose what you want to learn (for a price of course). so the point of education is to cater to your interests

Credentials and degree is a respect factor. It's like having "Doctor" as your titled name.

I've read a lot of unintelligent things on here, but this just might take the cake.
