You really don't have much to worry about. Be aware of your surroundings, don't walk around shook, nervous, paranoid. The community has a lot to offer, try to immerse yourself in it during the day.

i actually live in east los, been living here since i was 11, now 20. its not that bad of an area, you just have to make sure youre not in the wrong streets. like others said. dont dress flashy and bring attention, some people will rob you in plain day light. Townsend gangs, maravillas, white fence, little valley..all gangs to keep an eye out for. also, since you have a bucket car, thats an even easier target for it to be stolen. buy one of those steering wheel locks and youre good. also dont leave anything in plain sight in your car.

i work in commerce. a lot of my co-workers are from east la and we hang out at their houses and party late at night. it's not dangerous as long as you mind your own and be smart just like any other town. people here are ignorant or just exaggerating a bit. now compton or richmond are cities where i'd feel unsafe
