Can you get by in Hong Kong without knowing Chinese?

How would I fit in? I'm probably going when I'm 23-25, I'm 21 right now. I won't be going to school so I don't know where I would reallymeet anybody? Also I don't have a steady career. So maybe it's not a good idea after all

Thanks for all your advice really appreciate it.

you'll love it trust me
cute girls
great food
alotta history
the city is alive

cost of living wise, it can go both ways... u can live like a king if u got the stacks, seriously, but on the other hand u can survive no problem spending justa few bucks a day and still be eating some great food

its not dangerous at all for foreigners, heck for anyone for that matter, u do you and we doin us. plus if ur like the cats on this thread suggesting u to hangout in LKF, then u be just hanging out w/ a buncha other foreigners hahaa

triads only got problems w/ other triads or if anyone's giving them problems, not even something u would have to worry about

try everything! the ugliest food can change your whole perspective, hahaa "the beach" is one of my favorite movies

most ppl know basic english, if not they can direct u to someone that can help... try doing that in JAPAN

, i was in japan for a week, and only met like 2sales that spoke english

btw i would love to do what ur doing, explore new worlds

dam... makes me want to go back

havent been there for over 10 years ( I am 21 btw )

hit up Macau for the casinos

I actually feel you'd have an easier time fitting in than if I were to move there. An American-born-Chinese kid with shoddy Chinese language skills (canspeak fine but can't really read or write.) People would think I'm one of them but then once I opened my mouth, I'm pretty sure I'd get the

. Not sure why I feel like this though seeing as how I've been to HK numerous times

one thing though, to live in hong kong you'll have to have a LOT of money. the size of one of my aunts condo's is the size of my dorm. ull have to be millionaire to afford a house. u cant really do much in hong kong without money.
ALL YOU HAVE TO KNOW IS WHAT THIS GUY JUST SAID!!!!

I believe it's actually one of the safest cities, don't know where dangerous came from.
But it is a great place, everyone there speaks english anyways so your set.
The only issue is money

I'm a Marketing Major, what kind of career would I find over there?? Would it just be easier if I go to school when I first get there? you know so I couldmeet some friends and what not. Are there schools that teach in English?

I'm sure you'd fit in fine as long as you have some social skills and aren't shy. A lot of people around the around that age (I'm23). As far as marketing jobs, there are some but it really depends when you catch the job market. Sometimes they're looking for people who speak cantoneseand english, other times they'll hire someone who only speaks english, as long as they've been educated in the US or UK. Plus, looking for a job hereis most definitely easier than America at the moment.

I'm currently in Rome but a co-worker and I were thinking about going to Hong Kong over Christmas Break '09. Is this a good time to go?

Fall/Winter is the best time to go to HK in my opinion. It's terribly humid and hot during the Summer.

they speak english there. just go to the bar area that people mentioned earlier and youll be fine. i went around summer time and met a bunch of collegegirls from the us back home for the summer as well as british asian chicks.
