why do people get shocked when they find out a reality show is scripted?

i really didnt know this was staged till this thread, then i checked it out on tv again and finally realized it.

Can't see the vid on my phone, but I knew a girl(her fam as well) that was on the show (she was cheated on) it was NOT fake.

The only hint i got of the show being fake is when they brought a helicopter to get aerial footage of a confrontation.
They busted a cheating wife in a car near a lake and the angry husband tried to ram them into the lake with his own truck.
How did they know to bring in a chopper in advance to capture all that craziness?
Other than that, all the episodes seemed real and well-acted.
