I'm more offended by the fact that people don't know what "Manifest Destiny" is, pertaining to American History. Our schools suck

I sometimes wonder what the "get over it" crowd would say if their female relatives had been raped, their male relatives systematically killed, their land and wealth stolen and then someone made a holiday, or in this case a shirt, to twist the facts and celebrate the events.

Since when did awareness and sensitivity to other cultures' plight become "soft"? The internet has created a new breed of mob mentality cowards whom I can't stand. Disgusted.

They probably did it on purpose.

It could be meant to imply an evolution in an old term.

Instead of it meaning what it used to, land robbing,when I first looked at it, I thought it was piggy backing on the whole new age vibe.

As in MANIFEST destiny....manifest your own destiny.

I read this paragraph in a Tim Wise book a few days ago and was reminded of this thread:

The way in which we place murderers and rogues like Andrew Jackson on a pedestal, while telling people of color to "get over it" (meaning the past whenever slavery or Indian genocide is brought up, has always struck me as the most precious of ironies. We want folks of color to move past the past, even as we very much seek to dwell in that place a while. We dwell there every July 4, every Columbus Day, every time a child is given a book like Meet Andrew Jackson to read. We love the past so long as it venerates us. We want to be stuck there, and many would even like to go back. It is only when those who were the targets for slaughter and destruction in that past insist on having their voices heard that suddenly the past becomes conveniently irrelevant.
