Ego? More like he's a VERY serious actor and wanted to make sure that there was a real plotline and the film wasn't just a bunch of pointlessexplosions like 90% of action flicks. This is actually really old news.

Bale is a brilliant actor so I am sure whatever change was made based off him was for the better and will only make the movie better.

Its not like he called the writers and demanded a rewrite. He didnt want the original part and wouldnt do the film unless he got the role he wanted soproduction had the script changed. This is not anything out of the ordinary.
