EXPLOSION @ Boston Marathon

Probably not a good time, but the NewsRoom episode for this event is gonna be good.  RIP tho and best wishes to those affected.

some food for thought...everything is cosigned in this. i almost entirely stay away from news outlet coverage of this. just keep my ears and eyes open for major updates...

Something Else to Talk About
By John Cole April 15th, 2013
What happened today was absolutely horrible, make no doubt about it. Another dead child, hundreds wounded, and the worst thing I heard was that a lot of the injured were dealing with leg amputations, and many of them were runners who were in the bleachers after finishing the race. It’s just horrifying.
But I am done watching the coverage. I will, of course, follow the news over the next few days and weeks and months as we actually start to know something, but I am just not watching the death porn and overt rumor mongering on the cable channels. I’ve known journalism students. Many of them are not very bright. They don’t get better as they age and get cozy sinecures at CNN or Fox or MSNBC. I can internally recognize how bad this attack was without having to watch Chris Matthews on a high blood sugar kick saying crazy stupid ****. I simply refuse to let this dominate my life. Again, it is horrible, but I am not going to let the media work me into a froth.
I’m safe. You are safe. 99.999999% of the country is safe. But there never is a completely safe, and there never will be. I refuse to let the terrorists win, and yes, this was a terrorist attack. We don’t know who did it, but it was a terrorist attack. Any time you plant bombs in a garbage can at a peaceful assembly, it’s terrorism.
But again, people all over the world deal with this every single god damned day. That does not minimize the tragedy, but like I noted earlier, 37 people were killed in Iraq. Today. And it is no longer even on the front page of the New York Times, and when it was earlier, it was just an AP/Reuters feed.
Again, I refuse to be scared. You should too. I am going to sit here in my house and watch a show or two, then go to bed, and while I can commiserate with the wounded and dead and the horrible grief their loved ones must be experiencing, I am not going to spend the next couple weeks freaking out, because that is what the bombers and the war pig want. Remember, the much of the Patriot Act, which liberals claim to hate, was drafted by Clinton and the National Security State, and yes, Joe Biden, in response to Oklahoma City. We were lucky that we had a Democratic president then, because Republicans blocked much of it.
So let’s talk about something else. Let’s talk about tv shows that are currently on. Last night, I watched an episode of a show called Orphan Black on the Beeb, and as always, I want to state that we are in a golden age for drama. You don’t even have to look for good shows- the Americans, GoT, Shameless, Red Widow, Hannibal, the Hunted, Boss, Psych, White Collar, Suits, Justified, Banshee, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and on and on and on (and I am missing dozens). It feels like writers have collectively been allowed to do what they do best, which is write, and Network execs are not trampling all over them and editing and censoring the **** out of their work.
So do me a solid, and let’s talk about that while we sit here, safe at home, and while recognizing something horrible has happened and doing everything we can to help the people of Boston, let’s retain some perspective. You are safe. I am safe. For the most part, especially with the last few decades of declining crime rates, we are the safest we have ever been.
Remember that the next few days during the media frenzy, if you must watch. I would recommend you don’t. And I refuse to give up another right to prevent another “Boston,” but you know there will be calls to “do something.” We still take our god damned shoes off at airports because of a failed attempt. Lord only knows what is going to come down the pipeline now. The only thing we “need” to do is find the perpetrators, try them, convict them, and jail them for the rest of our lives as we go on with ours, and I have full faith that our collected government agencies can do this.
The bomber(s) isn’t the only one who wants you to be afraid. Remember that.

Because ever since "loose change" surfaced on Youtube after 9/11 every jerk who wants to get noticed has the right to be an expert about every forensic and scientific field involving these types of events.

So because people want to actually see what's going on in the case of this bombing their jerks or trying to be experts?

And what exactly is wrong or insensitive about that tweet... Is it insensitive when the news quickly scrolls that 40 soldiers have been killed followed by the sports scores or charlie sheens newest shenanigans. I understand it was a horrific act but dudes are out here straight up acting now. Everyone is so heartbroken and lost but skim by deaths of others everyday w/o a second thought.

In an earlier post, someone suggested that people are actually calling for him to be deported.  I'm just responding to that post.

Thanks to this situation they were checking bookbags and purses on the DC Metro (Subway System) today.........:smh:

And yet another thing that i fear is going to come from all of this when it's all said and done... and of course people are going to be fine with it under this false pretense of safety.

I always thought something like this would happen at time square during new years or a super bowl when the whole world is mainly watching one event

I can't imagine seeing that.
There's a couple of her. One like the dude said with an EMT feeling for her pulse. Then there's another probably taken seconds before or after with her in the corner of an image. Crazy to me how photographer's can snap pics like that.
Yeah, in the initial pic of her with the fencing in front of her, it looks like she may actually be trying to lift her head up.  And then there's the pulse pic, along with the one of her getting bagged on a stretcher.

When you see these they're sad, but you're somewhat detached because you don't really know what happened to that person.  In fact, most casualties survived.  But now that I know it was her that I was looking at all along and that she didn't make it, man......makes me sad.  And it really stinks that those pics may have been seen by her family because I know they were showing some on the news.

This part too!

Can you imagine the glares and discrimination these Middle Eastern looking cats have to deal with now if they want to buy a pressure cooker?!? I am also betting Obama/Biden are already looking for a way to setup a national registration database for people that buy pressure cookers!

Perimeter sweeps prior to the event and a person can bring a bag with a pressure cooker and only a few notice?

As much as I've read/heard about the events surrounding the bombing, it just doesn't feel right at all. Then again, the large evolution of social media has created such chaos(good too) within the media and makes it harder to believe. I hope that it gets resolved quickly, but I don't believe that it will and it will be brushed pass the eye of the citizens quickly, as did the earlier tragedies.

It's a public street. Anyone could have walked up carrying anything. You don't buy tickets for the marathon.

I don't know why people are getting so mad that the FBI interviewed that individual. So he didn't do it- fine. He's not in custody right now. I always like to think better safe than sorry.

I'm curious to see how that gets played out on television. Oh these people are just carrying 20 coats to safety. Someone wear one and have their sneakers match the coat.

I can see the shirts now. LORD AND TAYLOR... REALLY..... NO SHAME
