F1 season recap-
That's really all you need to know. This season has been dominated by Sebastian Vettel and his RB7. The boy has been untouchable until a few weeks ago when some rule changes/reversals have allowed McLaren and the team from Italy to catch up. Barring a monumental collapse, Vettel will be a two time champion by the end of the Grand Prix of Brazil.
In other news, Pirreli have made some craptacular tires, Alonso is faster than Massa (can you comfirm?), and Mark Webber is a crybaby.
The Grand Prix of Belgium is up next, and with the current (ridiculous, stupid, asinine) ban on in-season testing it's anybody's guess who'll win it. We'll just have to wait and see.
Screw Vettel. Ever since he crashed into Webber last year I can't stand the kid. I respect his ability though. Sucks cause I like the team but not the driver.
^ Yeah, I agree. As a McLaren fan, I'm naturally inclined to root against our enemies. I didn't have anything against VET or WEB at the time, but after his "crazy" gesture, it didn't sit well with me. The guy's an amazing driver, but I'm still not 100% convinced on his "race-craft". Would like to see him stuck deep in the field and how he handles it.
Anyway, who's got €35,000 - €45,000 to spare?

im new to f1.. and I really wonder if lewis driving that red bull RB7 car how much win he can get out from that car. id like to see vettle on other car too.
Red bull RB7 looks really fast compared to others right now.. after living in UK for 3 yrs i enjoyed F1 and football and became Lewis Hamilton fan.
In modern F1, it's all about the car. Vettel is great, but without the car, he wouldn't be on top. But we can say that for any driver. Even Alonso couldn't do much in his last seasons with Renault. Button was pulling up the rear for years until 2009. Lewis in the RB7 might equal eight wins this season, but it might even out since he's so hard on his tires.
Yes, a lot of F1 is down to the car, but drivers to make a big difference. A lot of lower-category drivers (when in an identical car) can probably get within 1 second of the top guys like Lewis, Seb, Nando, etc... but finding those extra few-tenths of a second... that how they separate the men from the boys.
A lot also goes into the design of the car suiting the driver. Do you really think Webber is THAT much slower than Seb? For this season, Seb has adapted the car and the tires better than Web. It was the same back when Schumi and Ferrari dominated. The car was designed for Schumi, while Bridgestone had a very tight relationship with Ferrari. You'd be foolish not to think that Ferrari gained some sort of advantage from that.
I don't disagree with you. It's about being the number one driver for your team. I KNOW Massa is a capable driver, but all of a sudden he can't hack it. But even still, he'd be further back if he wasn't in that Ferrari. Just how I feel. Give a great driver the best car and he'll win some championships.
I love Spa for the same reason.
@SinnerP With as much downforce that F1 cars can generate I don't think the corkscrew is too steep at all. As for DRS, all the passing on the straights (not during braking into the corner) have been DRS at work. The lower downforce plus the draft has made a huge difference. The car behind with the wing open has been blowing by the car in front of them all season long.
I'm a McLaren fan too and seeing Hamilton pass Alonso on the outside of the turn two races ago was great but that was all down to cold tires vs tires that already had a lap on them.
^ Actually, regarding LSeca, I was thinking it might not have enough ground-clearance to deal with the undulations of the track. I've never been there so, of course, it might not be as steep as I imagine.
DRS ~ My problem is that with the DRS, cars are passing with too much ease. They're breezing by, leaving the guy in front unable to defend his position. I see it as more of "passing" rather than "overtaking". A lot of times, the behind-car was past the front-car before the braking zone, which to me, is "too easy". I'd rather see them even at the end of the straight and see who can brake the latest for the overtake.
As to why I would prefer the current tires rather than DRS is that there are more variables... each car uses each tire differently. It also influences each car's strategy... do I pit earlier for the undercut? Do I just try to as far as possible, but risk the "cliff" where the tires drop-off immediately? Do I drive hard, build a gap but risk destroying my tires? To me, these are all more interesting variables on how to race rather than one guy closing up on someone else and then blowing by him on the straight.
Talking about L.seca... y'all seen how them MotoGP bikes go through that corkscrew corner??

As for DRS.. it's not been as drastic as i thought it would be. It's better than last years situation where cars where getting stuck in the turbulent air for large periods of the race.
There are 5 guys who are great drivers right now, and that's more than recent memory, although one of them is on the sidelines. The car is what is separating Vettel from Hamilton, Alonso, and Button, but it looks like McLaren are catching up. Kubica is better than all of them though, just needs a good car.
Kubica looked so promising in 2008, and in this preseason. I hope he makes a full recovery for 2012.

And for Nordschliefe fans, this is amazing.
The corkscrew is steeper than you can imagine. The elevation changes throughout the course is one thing that you definitely can't really get a feel for from watching a TV broadcast. Even after so many laps on the track in GT/Forza, it's surreal to see it in person. I can only imagine how it must be at tracks like Spa and Sachsenring where you can definitely SEE the elevation changes
So we actually have a motorsports thread back again on NT. Awesome. Been flooding the GT5 thread with F1 news lately.

Jenson just had an incredible 200th grand prix last weekend.
Spa is definitely my most favorite track in the calendar. I'm a fan of the old track without the bus-stop chicane revision. Monza the week after is a close second, too.
No doubt Red Bull will win it all this year, barring a complete meltdown, like one NTer said. Adrian Newey still has it. Although I hope it will be a close one.
I can't personally confirm this, but it feels like, while Spa may have bigger elevation changes, it's spread out more and not as steep as LSeca.
Having said that...
And while we're on Spa, I've sure you guys have seen this, but its still worth watching again...
