Famous Hacker Calls Windows More Secure than Mac Vol. LoL

Pretty much, why spend time hacking a Mac when u use that time to hack a PC and get CD accounts and @!$+

I think people who don't know what they're talking about need to leave the thread, now.

Many people feel that the "market share" argument is just a cop-out that Windows users use to make themselves feel better. However, this argument holds more weight than people think it does.

Ultimately, people just want to know which OS is more "secure". However, how do you test that? The number of "holes" in an OS? How critical the "holes" are? A combination of both?

You'll rarely find someone to give you a definite answer when it comes to Mac and Windows as to which is more "secure". Most people don't even know why Windows is deemed insecure

The first thing that you need to know is that Windows, Mac, and Linux are all built on different architectures. Mac and Linux both use Unix, and Windows uses its own proprietary system. Apple went one way with Unix, and the Linux distributions went other ways.

Before Windows XP, Unix was inherently more secure than Windows. Now, one may argue that Windows is more secure than (the Unix that is used by) Mac. XP was the first commercial Windows version to use the NT kernel (the "kernel" of an OS is an abstraction for the most basic processes that are essential for it to run). Microsoft has spent millions of dollars on security consultants and hiring people who hack their software for a living to try to secure Windows. It is generally accepted now that a Windows 7 machine would be harder to hack than a Mac. If you know anything about PwnToOwn contests (hacking contests), you'd know that each and every year it seems as if Apple is the first to fall to some sort of hack that doesn't take any supreme amount of ingenuity to craft.

People don't like to think they are stupid; don't like to place the blame on themselves. But it has been proven that the number 1 reason that people get their machines compromised is because of the "power" that Windows gives you upon installation. Most users run as "Administrator" on their computers, and it is this level of access that gets people in trouble. Mac OS by contrast does not grant users the rights to do nearly as much with its default level of access. Indeed, the "idiot-proof" argument holds weight. All the security analyses are conducted on default configurations, which is why it is so easy for them to find "holes" with such a high level of access and power on a Windows machine.

Unfortunately, people think that you can do as much with a Mac as you can with a Windows machine out the box. So it "appears" as though they offer the same functionality and Windows is somehow less secure, but in reality that is not the case.

Microsoft made a big mistake banking on peoples' intellect being higher than they really are. Unfortunately, its pretty much too late to adopt the Unix way of thinking since everyone expects to have administrator rights on their Windows machines now (probably even your kids, if you have any).

Windows still has some legit security holes (ALL OSes do), however it is hard to program against user-idiocy, which is what MS is spending huge dollars doing each release.

I have a macbook pro, g60, and a envy 15 beats. No problems with any of them but i dont go to pron websites and all that crap.

If you're doing a hack-job and you're looking to do major damage or get major money why would you waste your time on a company that has a whopping 8% market share.

Custom built Linux box>anything else period. Not only is it the most secure setup it's also the best setup to launch attacks from. And let's not forget it's free.

If you prefer a Mac, you may hear of security vulnerabilities that you can do nothing about. They are fewer than with windows, and you are less of a target, which usually keeps you safe. But that safety is not a result of the OS, it's a result of the fact that most Mac users don't keep critical business data on their machines (obviously some do, but they're a minority). You're probably safe with just the minimum basic security measures, but if someone decides they want your data, they can usually get it in spite of your best efforts.

someone who gets it!
not bashing macs or anything, but the elitist attitudes need to end.

It's funny how people think Apple is the greatest computer system. "they're so innovative," one may say. Alas, removing the shopping cart in iTunes so that you'll keep buying and buying Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon until you pass out; genius! Bigger is better right? Behold, the iPad! No multi-tasking, but who gives a *!$%!? It's $600 and everyone wants it!

Apple will probably concoct another one of their bad-boy ideas that will rail home the truth to you bum-heads who think owning a white polycarbonate-enclosed computer will save you from hackers. It will be so ridiculously ******ed that at first people will think, "Ah this is great!" but are getting butt +!!*#! in the process. Then when the SHTF, you will all realize you got punk'd. By Steve Jobs.
your skirt b, pull it back down

What it comes down to is Macs are much easier to hack but no ones cares about what you have on your Mac so they leave you alone. ^_^

so not running as an administrator makes my PC "more secure"?
