He had no chance. That COY award bought him time, before BC whackd him, and start the process of bringing in another guy.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Isaiah Thomas!!!!

jk

I'm cool with JVG or Johnson

I'm unsure about Jay Triano at the NBA level though. I don't think he can do it. I know people he used to coach at the national level.

I can't see why it wouldn't. He had guys like H2O, Ward, Childs, Larry Johnson, Mark Jackson, Glen Rice, Othella Harrington, John Wallace, Rick Brunson, etc playing stellar D for those old Knick teams. Those guys weren't exactly defensive specialists. His second year in Houston, he had guys like Scott Padgett

@ their overall game. But on D, every single player I listed, was only as good as average.

JVG would do great in T.O.

Moon, JO, Bosh, Parker, and Calderon are all capable defensive players.

Yeah, that's true. JVG does get the most out of his players on defense.

But I have my doubts because Toronto is structured as an uptempo team and JVG's teams are usually the grind-it-out teams. But it may be best for both sidesto compromise.

If JVG's interested in the job, I would hire him.

You guys actually think triano will do anything though, like put your Canadian pride aside and look at it with no bias that he is Canadian. I totally agree Samhad to be fired by now but leaving the teams success for the rest of the year up to jay triano kind of feels like to me we're throwing up the flag on theseason already. I know if you bring in a new coach this year there is not enough time to put in a system and I also know we have no idea how jay triano will beas a HEAD coach in the NBA. He could end up being a good coach but I have know confidence in him helping us make the playoffs this year.

That said I look forward to seeing how he deals with the rotation.

I think it was a spur-of-the-moment decision by Colangelo. It's not like he's been waiting for 3 years for Mitchell to screw up and he had areplacement in waiting. The process to find and hire a coach usually takes 2+ weeks. I agree with you that Triano is unproven but I think leaving Mitchell ashead coach would've been more of "throwing up a white flag" than making a change. Making a move only 17 games into the season gives the teamabout 30 games to gel before the All-star break. After that, we should see a noticeable improvement with the Raps. If Mitchell had finished the season with us,I'd have expected 38-42 wins. Now I expect about 44-46 wins.

Also, I wonder if Chris Bosh had a part to play in this firing. He has shown several signs of frustration over the past 3 weeks.

BTW, despite the lack of talent on this team, I expect to see some improvement in defense especially transition D.

Ah there he is. I been waiting for you to reply... get your damn phone back!

Anyway, I agree in a way. I mean, I want Triano to get a legit shot, but realistically with our time being limited until 2010, we should really look for animmediate fix; something that is going to help us in under 18 months. Jay may be a good coach, but I would love to see JVG, Avery, or Flip Saunders behind thebench.

Who is their 15-20 ppg wingman?
I honestly dont think this is an overreaction. He needed to go. There was no improvement from last year, and considering the deal that was madefor JO, we should be much better, and our record doesnt show it.

We have given up 18 point leads, and have lost by 40, both within 2 weeks. That comes down to coaching, not talent.

We shouldnt be on pace for another .500 season. With a much better team, personnel wise, we should be on track to be five games over .500. So far, this seasonis a disappointment.

Ive noticed the same thing too. I havent seen Bosh so mad over the past few weeks. Usually dude is intense on the court, but off the court he doesnt takethings out on anybody. Over the past while, hes completely ignored Calderon (made friends with him during the fourth Q of the Laker game though

(Yes,vcisking, we discussed this, it wasnt Vince like

)), and last night was just visibly frustrated...

i knew mitchell would be fired when the raptors were like 3-3 or 4-4....expectations were high this season.... and you just cannot be mediocre like that. thenthey play the lakers and the celtics and get completely demolished in both games....he had to go.

Feel free to add to Sam Mitchell's Resume

Sam Mitchell
-2007 Coach of the Year
-Loser in the 1st round of the 2006-07 and 2007-08 playoffs
-Allowed Kobe Bryant to score 81 points against my team
-Blew a 20+ point lead to the Dallas Mavericks with 8 minutes to go in the 4th quarter in the 2005-06 Season
-Has lost 2 games to the Nets thanks to Vince Carter buzzer beaters
-Has gotten into a physical confrontation with Rafer Alston

If Saunders, Avery Johnson, JVG currently cant find work in the NBA, I expect Mitchell to be on the sidelines for atleast 6 months. However, I could see ayoung rebuilding team like the Thunder taking a chance with Mitchell (R.I.P. Durant's promising career

).

Come on, Mitchell was the guy who let one man score 81 against him.

He should have been fired right there.

Made me forever hate the Raptor franchise.

I <3 Carlos. (nh)

and they showed a DISGUSTING fact last night since 1995 the Raptors are like 14-198 or something (my numbers aren't exactly right) on the road in theWestern Conference.

I think they should have gotten D'Antoni last year...a little late to me...

No, we certainly do not want/did not want D'antoni. We need defence.

BTW I like Triano, hopefully he does some good things as head coach,,I wonder what BC will do next.
