Are you basing this off of where they were then or what they amounted to? I enjoyed the movie. It doesn't always have to be the BEST players represented in a story. The story was Masterful.

One of the best documentaries Ive ever seen. Remember watching it in the theater with my AAU team in 94. Shame how so many of the people in the film ended up dead

And on top of that do you realize how hard it is to judge what type of player a young kid will become?
The chances of following a Lebron James from early childhood are slim to none.
Plus these kids had the deck stacked against them, growing up in poverty and such,
i think that's what makes it such a great film because it's raw and that's the story of a lot of inner city kids growing up playing Basketball.

Not knocking the documentary cause it showed two random kids trying to make it. Just saying they could have picked someone that at least had a shot to make it. These two dudes didn't have a shot once I saw each of them on the court

To those who have seen the movie, but haven't seen the Criterion DVD, I suggest you pick it up for the two commentaries: One from Arthur and William and the other from the guys who made the documentary. It's like seeing the same movie from a whole new perspective. There are a bunch of facts you get to know about different scenes in the movie, plus some twists that you would never have known by just watching the movie itself: One of the biggest ones is William revealing that he faked his injury and only acted to be injured at the Nike camp because he felt that he wasn't getting the ball enough.

William Gates had an invitation to the Wizards training camp to try out for the team in the early 00s. Then his knee acted up again so he had to give it up. Have you received any invitations to try out for any NBA teams recently? Didn't think so. So just stick to what you do best: Talking trash on the Internets and making threads that look to be appreciation threads, but instead turn out to be about trolling.

Makes it a much better movie that they weren't huge successes - that would have been a pretty tedious documentary.

OP you understand what Willie Gates was invited to Nike Camp that year right? How exactly does that translate to not having a shot? I think you are letting their current status cloud your judgement.� Agee was one of the best in the city, coming from THAT city means you have a chance. I don't know man, I just don't see where you are coming from at all. I won't call you a treasure troll though, but I don't think you are anywhere near accurate.

Irony.. just showed my lady this doc lastnight. But im not sure how good you were/are at hoops.. but both kids were uber talented and would likely be ranked very highly if they were dropped into 2011. They both had speed, length, quickness, athleticism. Both exhibited great basketball acumen at an early age(14). Not sure if youre trolling, but you couldnt be more off-base.
