i am very well aware that this is a comedy sketch that attempts to exaggerate the stereotypes of certain races, and many comedians and shows do this -dave chappelle being the first to come to mind. although both hosts offer some sort of social commentary on race, to me (notice i said "me" and did not generalize to "people") there is a stark difference between dave chappelle's humor/skits and this guy's. i think the difference lies in the fact that, whereas dave chappelle is guilty of playing up stereotypes about blacks, his skits will often dispel or at least challenge those same racist notions by offering a multitude of depictions of black characters in his skits.

what i don't find funny about the video OP posted was that it just attempts to highlight how whites and blacks are different, not in regards to each races' history but rather the lifestyles of each race. the premise of skit is very simple in that it operates on a standard compare and contrast of two races; but anyone can do that, and it'd probably be more witty than what this guy did. and whereas it's not his intention and purpose for the video, the host inadvertantly asserts that the values of whites are correct and the "standard" compared to those others. the "correct," "white" values are IRAs, trust funds, college degrees, and so forth. painted in contrast to these values are the "incorrect," "laughable," "black" values, which are money and jewelery. and although there is no true "white" or "black" lifestyle, let's be real, there is a hand-(bowl-/pot-/nation-)ful of people who want to believe that this is how black people and culture are. sure this is supposed to be a parody and he's being sarcastic, but this aint comedy, it's white privilege under the guise of comedy.

im not saying that dude needs to be Captain Socially Conscious/Captain Save A Race with his comedy, but don't capitalize on racists skits and say nothing about it while playing it off as "it's just comedy." im sure this dude is usually pretty funny, but this skit...eh. he could have been more creative.

he didnt say anything about black/white
"people with big chains n flashy jewelry tend to be the worst tippers"

hmmm i guess he didn't say anything about black/white...i mean he only proposed the question "is this racist?" and then ended his video comicallywith "www....whitesrule."

video must not be about race whatsoever.

Didn't see any generalizations (besides tipping comment). Even the tipping comment had no race attached "people wearing big chains" Seemed tobe him vs. that dude. IMO

all this video did was further promote stereotypes about people who live in the hood. i would go ahead and say that a majority of the people coming from the hood are not wearing chains and counting cash like that, and in no way was this video funny.

moreover, the fact that this white dude ended the segment with the sarcastic joke "www.../whitepeoplerule" makes this clip racial. without that last joke, the video could have been interpreted as a simple contrast between the rapper and the host. however, that last comment turned it into a "this is black thing" versus "this is a white thing." sure, it's supposed to be a parody, but i think the presentation of it is piss poor; a bunch of assuming americans just had their views and notions of "ghetto-black" people confirmed. someone made a comment about "white privilege" here on niketalk, and i think this is a fine example of how white privilege exists: whites have the ability to define and misrepresent/portray the characteristics of other communities and have it accepted as truth.

am i salty over this video? nahh....im just tired of played out generalizations and misrepresentation of people by the white-dominated media

Maybe it's just me, but I find a big difference between this and a skit by Dave Chapelle. The clown from D4L wasn't acting for a skit. That was him being him. It would probably be offensive if he had someone act like that for the purpose of the skit, but you can't be mad at the host forcallin' a spade a spade.

And maybe not in the D4L video in particular, but how many videos you seen with ignant dudes flaunting money sayin' something along the lines of "Youain't on my level" or "I don't

This is how I feel right here. You can't get mad at the host making fun of this dude and others like him. This guy was not making some sketch or playingsome character, he was dead serious. "Benjamin Frak-a-lin, they ain't none of yo' friends." That's the same guy, but he just referredto him as more than one person! I'd make fun of that. He's right about setting up trust funds and putting money away for the future. Real talk thatguy from D4L might have a bit more money than Tosh, but we'll see who's caking 10 yrs. from now. Dude completely ripped apart the entire mentalitybehind "making it rain" and flaunting your cash and we really can't act lik it's white people who are cornering the market in this type ofbehavior. Real talk this guy SET HIMSELF UP FOR RIDICULE. He did it to himself, and the whitesrule thing at the end was just him being overtlycontreversial.

At the end of the day, black people be doing some stupid %$#+, and I as a Black man am glad that dude just called on it. Hopefully more people get called onthis kind of behavior, but that won't happen because the people that Moe200069 are refering to actually don't want us to get called out for doing thiskind of stuff so we feel it's acceptable when in actuality it is NOT.

Bravo, Tosh. Bravo.

ItsGettin Hot gets it, so does I be John Mayer. Tosh didn't make the JU video and post it online, JU did. If anybody is confirming any stereotypes orgeneralizations, its JU, by making and posting his video for the world to see. Tosh just made his own version of the video, and posed the question....is itracist? Someobody here is trying waaaaaay too hard to prove a non-existant point.

I want to see what this guy has to say about hispanics.

The guy in the video tried to play it off as if every white person and every black person has like the ones in the video with the slick comment at the end. Itis racist but I do see the raise awareness point of it.
