dont know why any NY teacher would complain about a janitor's salary with the tenure system they have there.

I know a couple school janitors here in NYC, dudes own businesses and buildings etc.
But I do think the max paid teacher should make more than ANY janitor. These people ( the good teachers) are in control of our future and give education to those that will be looking after us somewhere down the line.
That being said I do think they should be well compensated, but not almost 200K, and I hate how the post kinda made it look like some sorta scam was going on. ANND they put dude's salaries on the paper

but when you make more than a teacher, CMON SON
dont try to tell people about hard work when i've been putting myself through school to be a teacher. 4 years plus grad school... to max out at 6 gs less than a janitor? i dont see how that's fair. my parents worked (work) +*!%$% jobs so i know about hard work.... it's not about the money really... just everything is messed up

i dont see how yall dont see an issue with a janitor making $90K and over $100K. did he go to college for that? is there a special skill required to do that as opposed to teaching?

As messed up and underfunded as the school system is there is no way this should be happening. Just another way unions and their antiquated rules hurt companies and ultimately themselves in the long run. Forgetting the overtime/extra work, you are telling me there isn't someone out there that would do that job for less than 100k, what would it take these days 50k? 30k?. In a job with little skill involved what good is paying a butload for extra experience? With the amount of janitors/other employees that capitalize on rules like this, it is a alot of money that could be put back into the actual school system. Teaching unions and seniority have there problems to but at least you can claim their should be some skill gained with teaching experience as opposed to janitorial duties.
In the corporate world I don't expect to keep getting raises yearly for doing the same work. If I didn't gain skill sets and was only able to do 1st year financial analyst work for 30 years, I would expect my employer to replace me with someone who would do the same work for free. Someone working on the sales floor at footlocker for 30 years isn't going to be making $40 an hour unless he can keep increasing his sales to justify it.
This is a serious problem in other gov't entities, especially the Long Island Railroad were Conductors who have gotten paid 3-5+days work for one shift just because of technicalities or are collecting disability and playing golf daily.

also, for what it's worth they are "head janitors" which I assume is 1, 2 per school in charge of the rest of janitors.
