Neither war was winnable from casualty count alone. We could literally nuke Iraq and history would read us being the losers. To win a war you have to win at all phases.

Exactly. How are you going to win a war with no tangible enemy? We killed anyone who we discerned as our enemy. And in our wake, we gave rise to an entirely new generation of fundamentalists and insurgency.

Came here to see if there was some useful dialog going on. Growing up in Florida, the stand your ground law was always something I was aware of. I remember being in high school about ten years ago as a kid talking about “stand your ground” with my peers. It was understood in our young, some what naive minds that if you have the license and someone threatens you with physical force ,you can do their *** right there and walk away protected by the law.

Fast forward to now, I don’t live in Florida, I’ve matured ” and the gun laws in Florida are more relaxed then when I was 18. The burden of defense/proof now lies with the DA / prosecutor and the victim. Which was supposed to make shooting someone for trying you even more of a cakewalk. and I’m interested to see how this plays out . If we take race out of the equation , how many of you would be to say “ain’t no body got time for this” and draw your piece because somebody wanted to put their hands on you thinking the super relaxed gun law in Florida is supposed to protect you . Meanwhile Zimmerman had no right to shoot anyone and got off with

That’s coming from someone who has extreme distrust of this government.

While I agree that most people middle class and up have zero need for a gun in day to day life..... There are people who have nice things that for one reason or another may be in an impoverished area or interacting with hostile environments... That could be gang areas, people who travel late night on public transit, people who have stalkers or protection orders on a nut job, even a disgruntled employee who they might be dealing with or firing just based on company policies.

At some point a need may arise. All it takes is one natural disaster that makes water, food, or electricity scarce for you or your loved ones to be targeted by persons in hostile need.

Or of course.... a mass shooter.
We really should only be concerned about mass shootings as a byproduct of deteriorating mental health and drug usage, or widening radical splitting of ideologies in society. Without looking at any stats... I perceive both of these as trending in the wrong direction sooooo....
