Like, where does one get started? At 21, I feel my time at the homestead running out. I'd like to set myself up at 23 to be able to move out with a couple childhood friends and get that experience started. Looking around for spots in NYC, Brooklyn has some nice areas with decent pricing for shared apartments, as does Manhattan. You know, those buildings with 24hr "security", workout room, deck, etc.

How much do you think I should be making minimum per 2 week paycheck to afford $750-$900 (my assumed share of apartments I like in that price range)? I feel like I'd be setting myself up for FAIL if I have a car note, but I would have mommy and daddy to help since I'm no longer home, and they'd still want to help me as much as they can (this I know, and I'd be stupid to say no).

I'm 25.  Still living at home.  Just graduated.  Need to pass my board exam and get a job.  Once I settle in my first job, I guess I'll move out...

I ain't gunna lie it's gunna be a tough transition for me.  I'm comfortable at home.

Damn, you'd still be paying up to 9bills with a shared deal? Anyways, I was like 21 when I moved out, and i am a total Mama's boy which it sounds like you might be too. Hell, I spent the night at my parents's house last night because I had food poisoning this weekend and Mom's made me some soup and got me some Ipecac and other medicine. Check this out though, I think you can beat 900$ a month http://newyork.craigslist.org/roo/ Also checkout http://www.airbnb.com

I'm 21 (turn 22 soon) and just graduated, wondering the same myself. I'm kinda tellin myself I'll work for 2-3 years, head to grad school, then move out then, but right now it's very blurry. The first month living at home was very weird.

IMO, if you're 21-25 with no kids, stay home and stack your money. No sense in having bills kick you in the #$@ at such an early age if they don't have to. With rent, electric, cable, water, car note & insurance, etc., it's easy to spend $2000+ just by yourself

I'm 22 and still living at home. I had my own apartment up in Albany while I was at SUNY Albany and shared it with a few people. Make sure people keep the place clean and do their part to keep the place looking fresh. I'm living back home now since I graduated and I can't stand it here anymore. I need to move out but I have no job

. It is a great feeling being out and not having your parents consistently pestering you to do things when you're trying to sleep in.

Car paid off, rent is $600/month

total cost of living bare minimum = $2200
SMH, age 21

I moved out at 21, I miss home, I still visit my mom every weekend (or during the week if not busy). I make pretty good money so bills don't kick me in the *@$ as much but now I'm making another move, move in with the wifey...
