NFL Devastating/Headshot Hits Rule Changes

I agree that helmet-to-helmet hits and driving guys' heads into the ground need to be eliminated from the game.  Head injuries are serious, and the NFL needs to take action to prevent them.

But there's only so much you can do.  These players are trained to hit violently from day one.  And there's no such thing as a defensless receiver: they're football players!

Dunta Robinson's hit on Desean Jackson was clean. It wasn't helmet-to-helmet, he hit Jackson with his shoulder, not his helmet.  It was a brutal hit, but that's what these guys sign up for.  That's part of what the league markets to the fans.

lol i can tell 99% of you guys have never played football beyond a high school or pop warner level.
or even at all.

the point of launching at at anyone with the ball is to knock the ball loose.
either for a fumble or to drop a pass.
thats why they have pads.
and thats why they have chinstraps. everyone i saw who got lit up had on a non armored chinstrap.

if we dont want them to play so hard, why are they getting paid so much money?
i thought the pay was for the risk?

i wonder how many careers will be ended on week 7 2010.

i cant believe i forgot about the chinstraps ... not only do they not wear pads on their legs and "forget" to put their mouthpiece in, they like to dangle the chinstrap so as to seem cooler than your average bear ... i'm not gonna fake, i had one side unbuttoned trying to be like primetime, but that *%*$ dont work if youre a receiver or running back ... they need to mandate padding and helmet rules before they go suspending people for "hard" hits ... except james harrison, dude needs a psych eval and a few games to ponder life ...

i think its necessary, cause they gettin fined now and they still doin it, players health is more important than anything. I was so upset after watching those games and seeing some of those hits. A player should not be allowed to lauch his body, it'll take a way from some those unintentional helmet to helmet hits.

The hit on DJax was not legal per an NFL official on Mike and Mike this morning.

The second Harrison hit was just as bad as Merriweather's hit. He just didn't leave his feet for it. They're both idiots for their actions.

  The only part of this rule that I don't like is the fact that they haven't really said it is whether or not a hit is done with malicious intent, while that is sometimes hard to tell it needs to be added to the rule.  The hits by both Harrison and Merriweather this weekend were both easily identifiable as hits with malicious intent, Harrison dropped his crown straight to Cribbs and Merriweather left his feet leading with his helmet.  The hit between Jackson and Robinson shouldn't be a suspension, sure it was a bad hit but it wasn't helmet to helmet, it was just hitting a defenseless receiver.

Now I know you have been riding Harrison hard in these threads and defending him but you can't tell me he couldn't avoid that hit on Cribbs this weekend

I like this rule.. Hopefully people stop cause there are SOME players out there that are looking to hurt other players.. James Harrison is one of them.. Dude always puttin people in concussions
