Go watch a video of Ronnie Lott and tell me how many times you see him lead with his helmet, shoulder or forearm into another player's head. You don't. That mother $!%!@@ knew how to tackle people. He lowered his shoulder and laid into their chest. Never the head.Originally Posted by likethematrix

tell these rules to **** butkis, lawrence taylor, reggie white and all the other hard hitters from the 80s and 90s and they will slap you in your girly faces.
basically everyone wants touch football. we might as well say $%@$ the pads and helmet and just throw on flags.
how you gonna suspend someone for aiming their helmet at the ball carriers arms and the football and they suddenly drop to the ground?
or how about youre going full speed for a hit and someone tackles the player from behind?
every "devastating" hit, "cheap shot" blah blah blah... those are words from people who have never played football. its part of the sport.
everyone who got lit up , hit hard, knocked on their +@$@% also dropped the ball.
THATS THE FREAKING POINT.
only upside to this, is Adrian Peterson is going to have over 300 yards this next game.
he is going to push every shoulder tackle and weak **@ "i dont want to get fined" tackle that comes his way to the floor.
these rules may ruin the nfl. cause if the game gets too soft, i promise 90% of the casual watchers (aka 70% of their entire viewers) wont wanna watch soft, patty cake technical based football.
and youre supposed to go at their chest and head.
the legs are 85% unprotected. and most recievers dont wear kneepads and very thin thigh pads and hip pads? forget about it baby.
at least 2 major players will blow their knees this week. i swear to god.

Realest thing in this thread. RB's are allowed to lead with their helmet....how does this make sense that thats ok but now the NFL wants to make a rule against hard hits? ITS @+$!!!$ FOOTBALL, ITS SUPPOSED TO BE HARD HITTING!!!! DaJoka do you not think football players are fully aware of the possible injuries they might face? They wouldn't do it if they didn't accept the risks. Like matrix said, if you went back and asked these dudes in the 70s and 80s who CRUSHED people if they should "tackle softer" you would probably get smacked. How long has the NFL been around for? Since 1920. How many guys are paralized? How many are dead because of injuries? Please tell me. But sure, let's change this now. Guys will just start blowing out other guys knees, which will do more damage to a guys career then any concussion will.

Portis, who suffered a concussion last season, understands the need to protect defenseless receivers when they go "up to catch a ball and somebody knifes or spear at you," he said. "But as far as dude running the ball, or running with the ball, and somebody hit you helmet to helmet, I think you got an opportunity to go down. You got an opportunity to slide. "So, you know, if you start suspending for helmet-to-helmet hits, I think you gonna see a lot more broken tackles and less big hits in the game. I think it's going to take the excitement away from the game and hurt. At the same time, with safety issues, they gotta do what they gotta do. This game always been violent," Portis said. "People like to see the mano a mano side of things. Like to see people collide. That's what makes football ... the greatest is the violent side. At the end of the day, somebody gonna be proven to be No. 1. It's everybody colliding, and who gonna be standing there at No. 1 at the end. I think that's the excitement of football and it's always been that way. For it to come in and change now, I know people are bigger, stronger and faster, so the collisions are getting tougher. But at the same time, I think that's what makes the game of football football."

Don't let them fool you with the injury scare tactic. Injuries happen when they happen. Not because of more games.

What you bolded only proves my point that you don't have the first clue about why this is an issue. The acute effects of a concussion aren't the most damning.
I know plenty about sports injuries, that has nothing to do with my opinion on why they shouldnt implement this new rule. Yet you still didn't answer my question, or any of the bolds if your so concerned with them.
