NT Are You A Classist?

Damn shame ppl walk outside then come in the crib & walk around the house in the same shoes :{

Leave my shoes at the door then i put on my slippers, hate walking around barefoot or with just socks too

Why do some people do this?...if I'm gonna act like my floors are made out of precious diamonds I rather not invite anyone over, making people take off their shoes is rude.

My mother does this and I always fight with her about it, she even has a surgical booties dispenser at the entrance of her apt...is borderline crazy.
How do you not understand this concept? Your shoes have been literally everywhere, from the yard, to the streets(probably not so much the streets for you but you get the point), to 7-11 to wherever else you've been that day.  Some folks simply don't want all that being tracked through their house.  I don't see the problem with taking off my shoes when I walk into someone's crib, I wasn't even raised like that but find myself doing it at my own spot.  How in the hell do you find this 'rude?'

So do many of you feel that class and culture are two different concepts? Or are they aspects of one or the other?

My mom is like this. We were fortunate enough to come from being extremely poor before I reached HS to somewhat higher middle class now. She definitely views the people from the neighborhoods we grew up in as lesser than her somewhat. Nothing but negative things to say. I will never understand :{

son, stop asking all these follow-up questions...this is now a shoes on/off when entering the crib debate.
So are shoes on/off is a class issue or nah?

Pretty much just this. If you're a decent person that treats others with respect idc what your situation is, you're good in my book.

I've met some scummy people balling off their parents accounts, and scummy people without a pot to piss.

I think the classist separation occurs because in America, cash is king. You just have a natural uneasiness bringing someone that doesn't have much into your bubble when you have something. Financial success is equated with overall success too, and this is the exact thing that tore my high school circle apart.

Half of us were planning to go to college, major in something STEM, graduate with a good job, and go on vacations as Bros feeding foreign women backshots (this all came true, we're still in the process though). The other half just wanted to sit around, smoke, and party, which is exactly what they're still doing now.

You just want to associate with people you feel as if are 'at your level'. It seems a messed up thing to say, but if I know you're broke and doing nothing about it, 9/10 I'm good on you. I'll politely oblige conversation and show common courtesy, but I'd never associate.

On phone, didn't want to go super in depth.

What exactly would you consider broke tho, If a person does have a rood over there head, doesn't have money to go on expensive dinners, or take trips very often, or doesn't have a job making much money, but is completely content with all of that, then would you not wanna be involved with them ?

I completely understand the idea of not wanting to be around people who are just tryna party & smoke all day, but you can learn A LOT from someone who has little money and is completely at peace with life.

Nah its a trifiling and non trifling issue
Trifling by definition means to judge someone or something based on its value through giving or depriving the notability. How do you determine if you're in a position to judge someone? That's social distinction isn't?

I think in America (all I know) they end up intertwined as aspects of one another through the way media shapes perception and social reinforcement.

Mostly, I think it depends on the individual. The higher you go in terms of class, the more the 'system' changes you to be more representative of that respective class.

If you're a dude that made it from the hood to corporate... You don't stay corporate by staying hood, it changes you to conform to that white/blue collar middle class or risk compromising your position.

Unless of course you're a rapper or the like.. They sell the image of a culture representative of the 'lower class', but I guarantee that's not the way in which they conduct themselves when doing business.

Had to pull an all-nighter for my final, sorry if my explanation isn't too clear

Im not stupid fam. I can tell the difference between someone content with their position and someone simply unambitious.

Feel like that was kind of implied.
American is a class ruled society disguised to look like a traditional democracy.
I 100% agree with this.

On the first page a few posters seem to have felt like class was innate though, judging people on their actions, more than social perspective. A few users are even posting internationally.

At a Facebook seminar, Mark Zuckerberg told us that he wears the same t-shirt jeans and sneakers every day so that he's not distracted by fashion choices. His net worth is 33 billion dollars. I recently read in an interview that he connects literally half of the developed world with Faceook, and he's currently working on developing internet connections in third world countries that don't even have running water. Many people wear the same clothes every day, but because they have no choice and most likely don't have the luxury of being distracted by fashion neither.

There are places in the United States where poverty is so preponderant, that people wear the same t-shirt jeans and sneakers every day and America labels them "lower class" based on economic status. However, there's countries in South America, Africa, Asia and Australia where people unaffected by globalism wear tribal garments every day and they are held to high status in their village or kingdom.

So is class innately subjective or objective? Do we form synergy or cohesion based off of our similar goals? Or is it predetermined by probability?

This will be an A+ discussion, especially once people stop talking about shoes on carpet.

I promise ill come back to answer this as soon as I get some sleep. Some pretty strong points, I need my brain fresh.

Tagged for later.

Man, I'd slap the leopard print off ur skin if you walked in my house w/o taking off ur shoes.

I don't want whatever gunk you got on the bottom of your shoes being tracked on my floors or carpet.

Thats the Same dude that slurps his own baby batter, certain dudes just unordinary

IDK about class but if a dude isn't into sports then I really have no common ground to relate.

Obviously chicks are exempt from that rule, though sometimes I wish my girl liked football. But if you as a bro can't watch a ball game or a good fight then we can't chill.

Just, naw.....It won't work for us.

I'm amazed that people don't understand why people make others take their shoes off...
