BEST MAIN CARD OF THE YEAR SO FAR

some quick notes
- bj better watch out cause diego isnt going to be afraid to strike with him
- sick first round between clay and diego, diego's striking is getting cleaner and cleaner, guida is a beast but his striking is still too raw
- chris lytle, guy wants to make people slug it out with him for 15 min which is something i think very few fighters want to do so big ups to burns, absoluteslugfest
eek.gif

- johnson is too small for 170
- pearson and winner had a sick fight, very technical, used nice mixups of dirty boxing along with the thai clinch, and when they were at the center of thecage, they threw down

- i saw a couple of ross pearson's fights on TUF but i didnt see any of andre's episodes, WOW

at andre winner, even though he didnt win, this guy is gonna be a force at 155, he displayed probably the best use of the thai clinch ive seen in theufc since silva-franklin, and on top of that he doesnt really use his length to keep distance but instead likes to get in close and throws bombs

, just needs to work on his cardio

with all that said, i stand by my thoughts that gsp vs alves is still going to be fight of the year

At the very worst for Diego, it was a draw.

The first round was clearly a 10-8 round. The third round could have gone either way.

The judge that scored the match for Guida is insane.

guida is a beast and diego is a beast. put 2 beasts in the octagon and boom FOTN

edit:
for the member looking for fights to watch i'd recommend:

gomi vs pulver
rampage vs liddell 1
fedor vs randleman
randleman vs crocop
machida vs ortiz

that battle was intense...

this fight cemented diego as an official elite world class striker IMO.

thing is guida wasnt lying when he said he wasnt that rocked by that kick. watch his arms and face/eyes/head. who knew he had a head that hard.

again great fight card overall.

already looking for lytle to be back in the octagon.

i think edgar deserves to be in over diego. he's been putting in work at 155 and frankly his last two opponents were tougher thandiego's.

one more solid win at 155 would probably earn it for diego but he'll get the shot over edgar anyway because he's a tuf alum.

i thought andre beat ross in that fight. andre has a future imo

don't know what happened to demarques. he got his %++ whooped bad, didn't expect that at all.

those elbows that diego was throwing from the bottom were vicious.

No joke that Edgar has been doin his thing at 155 for awhile but I think that loss to Maynard is what is keeping him down. I think its all amatchup/story issue. When BJ wins, Maynard will probably get the next title shot because dude has beat everyone that's been put in front of him and IMO heis the #2 contender behind Florian. If by some chance Florian wins, Diego will probably get the shot because it makes for good story with their history andsmack talkin that is sure to ensue. Sucks for Edgar that he has to keep winning and wait for a shot after one of these 2 dudes does.

the knock on maynard would be his competition level. they need to get him in there against some quality fighters

mac, griffin, and franca are already scheduled for fights. sherk would work, as would diego actually.

Hey man.. that's good stuff! I wanna see these fighters getting paid.. motivation to get after it and put on good fights!

I was more than pleased by the fights Saturday night!! Sanchez/Guida is my early favorite for FOTY
eek.gif

What is Sanchez smoking for him to seriously think he has already earned a title shot?!?! I agree that Maynard and Edgar are both far ahead in titlecontention, although I think Edgar's win over Sherk should get him first dibs. Put Sanchez/Maynard together and winner there gets the shot after Edgar.Dana/Joe Silva need to step it up and get those title matches going a lot quicker, defending a title once, maybe twice a year just isn't cutting it.

I think I saw one commercial for this and it looked bootleg as hell. I just cant see myself paying to see this card, maybe if it was like $5. The free TUF Finale card had as much appeal as this one and that was free. I dont know if Lashley has PPV draw yet. Sapp cant carry a card in the states, andat this stage in the career I doubt whether he would be able to in Japan (do they even have PPV's in Japan?). Same goes for Yvel and Rizzo. Onlysemi-intriguing fight I might want to see is Tom Atencio, to see if he's got any chops as a fighter. If he does...

Affliction v. UFC 1
Fedor v. Lesnar
Vitor v. Anderson Silva (might be closer than we think eh?)
Atencio v. White

I can dream can't I?

^ I've seen promos on tv here in New York. All I could wonder was how are they able to use footage from pride for bob sapp. Doesn't zuffa own all pridefootage?

ehh maybe, if Brock loses in any way shape or form, his stock goes down incredibly and Fedor would be stuck in a limbo again with no clear cut contender.

this is always someting people are curious about.....

The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale salaries: Diego Sanchez and Joe Stevenson earn top paydays
by Dann Stupp on Jun 22, 2009 at 2:05 pm ET
Main-event winner Diego Sanchez and main-card victor Joe Stevenson earned the biggest disclosed paydays at this past Saturday's UFC event, The UltimateFighter 9 Finale.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today requested and received the official figures from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The event, which concluded "The Ultimate Fighter: U.S. vs. U.K." reality series, took place Saturday at The Pearls at the Palms Casino Resort in LasVegas. The night's five-fight main card aired on Spike TV.

The total disclosed payroll for the event was $430,000. Sanchez earned $90,000 ($45,000 to show and $45,000 to win), and Stevenson earned $70,000.

Welterweight James Wilks and lightweight Ross Pearson, two Team U.K. fighters who won their respective weight classes on the ninth season of "TUF,"each took home $16,000 ($8,000 to show and $8,000 to win), but both earned multi-year UFC contracts that will bump up the fighters' pay in their comingfights.

The total list of paydays include:

Diego Sanchez: $90,000 (includes $45,000 win bonus)
def. Clay Guida: $23,000

James Wilks: $16,000 ($8,000 win bonus)
def. DaMarques Johnson: $8,000

Chris Lytle: $36,000 ($18,000 win bonus)
def. Kevin Burns: $9,000

def. Cameron Dollar: $8,000

* - Includes 20 percent of Ciesnolevicz's "show" money as a penalty for Ciesnolevicz failing to make weight
+ - Includes a 20 percent deduction/penalty that went to Drwal after Ciesnolevicz failed to make weight

Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not includemoney paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. They also do not include any other "locker room" orspecial bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays.

For example, the figures above do not include the UFC's traditional "fight night" bonuses. The UFC awarded $25,000 TUF 9 Finale bonuses to Guida,Sanchez, Lytle, Burns, Stevenson and Diaz (Fight of the Night), Drwal (KO of the Night) and Dent (Submission of the Night). The three Fight of the Nightbonuses were a UFC record.

WHITE BACKS OFF ON LIDDELL RETIREMENT... SORT OF
Monday, June 22, 2009 - by Ken Pishna - MMAWeekly.com

Although he all but handed Chuck Liddell a gold watch following the former UFC light heavyweight champion's devastating TKO loss at the hands of Mauricio"Shogun" Rua, UFC president Dana White took a step back from the retirement talk on Saturday night... sort of.

At the UFC 97 post-fight press conference, following the Liddell's loss to Shogun, White stated, "At the end of the day, I care about these guys. Idon't want to see anybody stick around too long. You're never going to see Chuck Liddell on the canvas again."

The loss was Liddell's fourth in his last five starts, three of those losses by way of knockout or TKO, after all.

During the telecast for The Ultimate Fighter Team U.S.A. vs. Team U.K. Finale, White was asked about Liddell's pending retirement, to which he answered,"I'm not his father, he can do whatever the hell he wants to do. I'm his friend and I care about him a lot, and I'd never like to see himfight again."

Much more subdued than his seemingly definitive statement after UFC 97.

For his part, Liddell has never fully committed to the idea of retiring. At the same post-fight press conference where White might his initial statements, heanswered questions of retirement, saying, "That's probably safe to say, but I'm not gonna make any decisions until I go home and talk toeverybody, talk to all my people, my friends."

And now, two months later, there still has been no official statement from Liddell on whether he will or won't retire. It's obvious, without any publiccomment, that it hasn't been any easy decision for the former champion, whichever direction he ultimately chooses.

If he does decide to continue fighting, he is still under contract with the UFC, and it's unlikely that he will ever adorn the fight card of a competingpromotion.

liddell wont retire.

if he fights again in the ufc and loses again he still wont retire.

in 5 years he'll likely still be found fighting in smaller promotions.

it's not in the nature of fighters to retire until they absolutely cannot win on any pro level anymore.

they generally have to be not just beaten but stomped into retirement.
