Official PC thread.

You can pick up a 2600 right now for $185, which is basically the same price as the 1600, from Fry's.

I also noticed that GTX 1070s to GTX 1080 Tis are stocking more and more on shelves lately in the Micro Centers, Frys, and Best Buys, which is good news in terms of the shortage being over.

Downside: The MSRP of all those cards are now $500+ at minimum :smh:

Can you guys rate my build? I'm actually trying to make it cheaper, any suggestions on what to cut cost on?

Its going to be used as a work tower for web development, local server environments, web design (photoshop/illustrator/experience design).

I'm trying to get it down in the $600 range without rebates

Instead of that CPU and cooler.

You can get a 2700x w/ a Wraith Spire cooler for $330.

Hey guys just finished my very first pc build. I can't believe I've waited this long to join the "PC Master Race" lol.\

But I had some questions / problems that I hope someone can help me out with.

My setup is as follows:

Ryzen 2700x w/ stock cpu cooler
Aorus Gaming Ultra x470
G.Skill 16gb (8x2 sticks) @ 3600mhz
EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 SC
2 Front 140mm fans blowing air into the case
2 Top 120mm fans blowing air up out of the case
1 Rear 120mm fan blowing air out the back of the case
Phanteks P400s case

Can I overclock this build?

Also I checked cpu -z and my ram sticks are still running at 1033mhz dual meaning it’s at 2066mhz right?

How do I get my ram to run at the 3600mhz it’s supposed to? I went to bios and activated the xmp default 1 profile it said it’s at 3600 but I don’t think it’s actually running at that

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry it’s my first time doing anything pc building related, so I feel as I'm completely lost. lol

depends on temps your getting but that cpu should overclock.

Thanks... how would one do that....? Lol

I feel completely lost...even after reading stuff online lol

Man it’s been a while for me, but it should be done in the bios for your motherboard? I would look up your motherboard and see overclockig instructions for the specific model. Chances are it has been done. Also what did you need OC for?

Honestly I thought I would need it since I would be using the pc for gaming/streaming/video editing.

But now that I think about it I feel I would be fine if I just had the ram sticks at the frequency they should be at. I just want them to run at 3600mhz or close to it atleast.

How would I do that?

Looking at specs, your MOBO only supports up to 3200.

As far as OCing, pretty sure you just go into BIOS and change the CPU multiplier.

Monitor your temps. I suggest you read into everything and completely understand what you're doing.

Here's a good place to start.

All this is great! OC is simple, but can definitely cause issues if not done right.

That moment you realize while shopping for new PC parts for a new system build............that your PC monitor's VGA cable is actually "out-of-date" AND should be using a DVI cable to be compatible with all-modern day graphics cards (like a 1070).

:smh: At least I know now, time to get me a true DVI cable

Lol, DVI is put of date too. HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort is wutchu need.

Anyway my parts got delivered today and I threw everything together with a little help ftom my cousin's husband. Still need to do a fresh windows install but until I find my jump drive and my windows 8 key this will do. Also the wire management (or lack of) needs work, but I just wanted to make sure everything worked first.

I know......which means my monitor is also out-of-date LOL.

I was planning to change my monitor out anyway so I can take full advantage of my new 1070 that I just bought, but..........I've gotta wait for my next payday since I just used the rest of my guap to pay off bills this month :smh:

ya boy entered the 21st century and got a ssd

Nice. Makes s hug difference. Long as it is secure so the cable doesn't pull, youre good. No moving part.
