***Official Political Discussion Thread***

no I don’t mean on some conspiracy ****.

like stuff I have seen first hand.

could be the classmate I had in 6th grade that was kicked in the head by mpd, pepper sprayed and left for her dad to take her to the hospital in front of the whole class and the police officer was back the next day in school like nothing happened.

could be my boy who is now suicidal daily because he was forced to mow down men, women and children in Afghanistan for no reason.

**** like that, I’m not talking about pizzagate and 5G bruh.

I’m not joining any damn militia
Sorry again,

No one is denying that government malfeasance is an issue, but that is not a cogent argument against tax increases. Especially against the argument, people have made here.

The same people that what higher taxes to fund social democracy are antiwar and want to reform policing

So if you want all those things fix, then support the people that want to fix them, and be ready to pay more taxes to fund better public services

MSCHF is an art group that has put out some hilarious projects over the last few years. NT might have talked about INRI Air Max filled with holy water. Anyway, their most recent drop was the opportunity to control a Boston Dynamics Spot mounted with a (paint) gun. The folks at BD were none too pleased.

Daniel Greenberg, a member of MSCHF, claims there’s a serious side to Spot’s Rampage though. “Anytime you see a TikTok or a dance it's like, ‘Oh God, Spot is so happy,’” Greenberg says. “But if we actually talk candidly about what it’s going to be used for in the real world, you could say it's police, you could say it's military.”

Needless to say, Boston Dynamics isn’t very happy. The company tweeted on Friday: “We condemn the portrayal of our technology in any way that promotes violence, harm, or intimidation. Our mission is to create and deliver surprisingly capable robots that inspire, delight and positively impact society.”

Boston Dynamics has spent decades developing robots that balance dynamically—that is by constantly moving—in order to traverse difficult terrain. The technology, which emerged from academia, was developed with funding from Darpa for more than a decade before Google acquired it in 2013.

Gotta love how they want us to believe that if the choice of the winning bid for exclusive use of those robots was between the national association of quadriplegics (or the equivalent) and the pentagon, they would totally go with the former.

I know. But it gets hard to separate good from bad sometimes. Mpls is blue af but we have the worst police in the nation and always have.

I’m not both sides anymore but I’m not exactly going too embrace government in a hallelujah moment either.

I just want to end homelessness, free healthcare, amazing education, strong unions and ****ing BULLET TRAINS everywhere!

cut what you gotta cut to make that happen, thanks.

If I were in charge, I’d do those good things and more. To pay for it, I’d first raise taxes on capital and the very wealthy and cut “defense” a great deal. After that and only if needed, would I tax income more than it is taxed now.

Considering what I’d be doing: universal EBT food cards, massive child allotments, obviously universal healthcare, universal higher education, reperation programs for BIPOC, a federal jobs guarantee, a UBI and more, there would be too much inflationary pressure without middle class households paying more in taxes. But on balance, every worker would have a much higher standard of living.

Joe Biden needs to take a page out of the Pat Riley playbook and start calling out Manchinema through the media and get them on board.

Listen up Jack, we’re going to be doing five hour practices and if you let a cutter move across the paint without getting bumped, everyone is doing a dozen suicides each time it happens.

You shouldn’t assume your experience in this regard is uncommon.

I think it’s appropriate for you and others to be dissatisfied with some government expenditures. That’s pretty much a feature of living in a constitutional republic. The odds of everyone agreeing on spending is, low.

i Think it’s great if you work towards legislators at all levels of government who have similar views on how to provide for the public good with taxes.

But you should look twice if you find yourself agreeing with Greenspan and Reagan. Government is not intrinsically a problem. It can effect tremendous positive value for its people. But it needs our taxes to do that. Paying taxes and insisting on better governance are two of the most important duties of a citizen. It’s a rhetorical trap to go down the road of complaining about taxes. It plays right into the hands of the right.

Grown men who’ve been in politics for decades let trump come in knowing nothing and take over.

Some elected democrat has to publicly tell her that this is how they’ve been seen for a while now.

That response from BD was hilariously bad. “Look, we do so much to make sure people don’t misuse our robots. That’s why you should ignore the issue of misuse of our robots being raised by these artists who are, in our opinion, misusing our robots in a way we are powerless to stop.

MSCHF must have pissed themselves laughing.

. I don’t trust the government man, I think you know that.

I think you’ve mentioned you used heavy machinery In the workplace.anyone who has understands that there are some jobs that just can’t be done without heavy machinery. And if you’ve worked around machines long enough, you’ve seen them take a finger or a hand or a life or two. The danger of a machine has everything to do with the competence of the operator and the vigilance of everyone around it, You don’t distrust the machine, but you respect what it can do and you make sure you control it. And as dangerous as it is, you fire it up and deal with managing the risk because you need it to get the job done.

i’ve damaged a few myself and put a couple quarter million dollar machines on their side.

but, I still love my job most days even though it tries to kill me at times.

but I got you, I’m picking up what you’re putting down.

No one said you were joining a militia. Relax, b.

I said you were the type of dude a militia would target to try to turn to their side.

They don't want Rex and his socialist Cali avacadoes. They want a midwestern dude that hates taxes and thinks "Yeah, South Dakota, that sounds good".

Just telling you be careful. Look at want happen to Anakin

Yeah it’s all fun and games until they find out I’m a double agent.

for the record I don’t like South Dakota politics. I just like the black hills, that’s like you moving to vegas because you liked the mayor wanted to open up the strip when Covid was raging.

im going to tear that state a new ******* with my lib friends from minnesota and all the denver and California transplants that got priced out.
