to finish the discussion (it cuts off before Fauci answered the second part), senator aynrandpaul misses the point. vaccinated people are unlikely to get seriously ill, even from a variant, but they could still get infected and pass on the virus to someone else who will get seriously ill.
this is a rehash of the long-discarded idea that only elderly people in nursing homes need to take precautions and wear masks and the rest of us should just live freely. it simply doesn't work that way.
things may change once we learn more, but the idea of giving some people the freedom to not wear a mask is just going to be a disaster, especially since a lot of those people had cheated their way to getting an early vaccine. we can have this discussion in summer once everybody has had a chance to get vaccinated.
