***Official Political Discussion Thread***

One more thing history will remember:

In 2016, a few journalists did some great work to report on potential corruption and conspiracy among the Trump campaign. We knew then about Manafort's potential crimes and we knew there were rumors about Trump's scandalous behavior with women and its potential for compromising him legally. The dossier also touched upon a few of these things.

Many in this thread pointed these things out 2 years ago. We were called hysterical. We were called conspiracy nuts. We were told to stop hyperventilating.

Everything else that was talked about, including the pee pee tapes, will be shown to be true. We're just getting started.

Omarosa's alleged dreaded n-word tape will see daylight.

Trump probably said it with the hard "-er" and this will only serve to Galvanize the right and make them even stronger.

The only thing that happened today was that Trump locked in a second term.

Everybody is getting excited for no reason.

The dumpster fire is just expanding.

Maybe for his base, but for the rest of us? Nah.

The walls are closing in fast on Donny and he knows it. Just wait until his family starts being indicted. Don Jr. is gonna have his time in the barrel soon me thinks.

I honestly don’t think Trump makes it to 2020 and today just accelerated that, IMO.

Good punchline but I want focus on the set up. The “cost of socialism” is 38 trillion over a 10 year period. So it’s 3.8 trillion or $11,700 per American per year. Most of that is money for single payer healthcare. That figure is less than the combined cost of employer health insurance, out of pocket costs and current Medicare and Medicaid expenditures. So we get universal coverage for less money and we have a few hundred billion to have a more generous social safety net, tuition free public universities and student debt relief.

As a country, we cannot afford to refuse social democracy.

Out of ALL the things to insult Trump on, #TheResistance always jumps to calling him a Soviet agent (hasnt existed for 27 years) or gay lovers with Putin. Lazy.

No.

Two Americans are headed to jail for many years for crimes committed.

Their reputations are ruined. Their families are ruined. Trump is in hot water and, even in the best case that he doesn't go to prison as well, he will still have to take drastic measures to save himself and will spoil many in his party on his way.

And history will remember the events of today and how they are linked to Trump. His family and its reputation is ruined forever too.

Things matter.

Still, Trump himself will remain untouched and ultimately, the only thing that we got out of this is hope that voters will now do the right thing. But considering that the moral Christian patriots with family values have completely ignored his pornstar-playboy model abortion and hush money, blatant racism and insults to every minority, disabled people and soldiers who were prisoners of war, I think it's safe to say that they will ignore this as well.

I think some of the impulse, especially for older members of the #resistence is that since the ‘80’s liberal have had to deal with the obnoxious Republican routine of “only Republicans love America.”

By making jokes about trump being in the pocket of a foreign leader, it subverts that whole flag waving narrative. To posit him as the passive gay lover of that leader is to subvert that whole conservatives equals machismo narrative.

Of course, I think that the wannabe Sorkin characters is the #Resistence are playing themselves sometimes. When you earnestly try to our patriotism conservatives, you buy into their phony framing.

The flag waving was all an act. The flag symbolizes the American State which is often times conflated with whiteness or white dominion over North America. Plus, all that flag waving was great marketing for the defense industry, a key GOP donor source.

Still though, I have to chuckle at so-bad-they-are-actually-good photoshops of trump in a Russian hat dancing like a Cossack.

So now that none of us believe Mueller is done, he's not even done with Manafort, althought Manafort certainly is done, who is next?

Trump's idiot son?

Jared and Ivonka?

New indictments against Russian actors?

Who's next on the ladder on the way up to Trump?

So we already have the audio of Trump discussing the payments made by Cohen and now we have Cohen's admission today that he was directed by Trump to make the illegal campaign payments.

Last week it was "Collusion is not a crime"

Today it is "Directing your lawyer to commit a crime is not a crime"

Next week, they'll be saying "Killing someone is not a crime, and they still haven't found Russian collusion. Total witch hunt".

Trump was absolutely right when he said he could shoot someone and not lose a vote.

Good Lawd!!!

Ole boy was spittin that real :smokin

Indeed.

I loved it when he started with a reminder of the history of protesting in this country. We could go further with the labor movements of the late 19th /early 20th century (and the riots surrounding them) that led to the abolition of child labor and the introduction of the 40 hour work week in these United States.

Those events are being struck out of our collective memory. We should teach this stuff in K-12 to remind everybody that none of what we enjoy in this society today has been "granted" by a piece of paper (the Constitution). A lot of it has been fought for and earned by those who came before us.

I have been in NT for a long time. When you're on a forum for over 14 years your posts tell a story about you. As much as I like to joke about Coal, Coal Gang and the Coalition, I have to tell the truth. Yesterday was a devastating day for this administration. Cohen and Paul getting the trip to Club Fed is an awful look for this administration. No amount of spin can save this administration from the inevitable. Start the chants fellas. LOCK HIM UP, LOCK HIM UP. By him I mean President Elect Barack Hussein Obama of course.
