Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

a beat from a producer that copied a producer copying a producer you won't be heard.

bruh as someone from the generation you're referencing and have seen dudes go from nothing to plaques lol you don't know how true this **** is. everyone following the leader then getting extra defensive over what they copied

I saw Gunna and some ***** from New Orleans on IG arguing about a spider one time.

90’s was waaaaaay more diverse musically. New beats and styles were dropping all the time. Even the way the sound changed from the early to late 90’s. There are WAY MORE ARTISTS now but 90’s had diversity on lock.

To compare how different **** is now to then

Look at how different records were from the early 2000's and 90's compared to the latter half...whole musical subgenres birthed and died within a span of 2-3 years...in the 2010's everything is under a trap umbrella so a lot of beats you really couldn't be able to tell what year they came out...a lot of Mustard, Future, QC records could have came out anytime after 2013 or after 2016....2013 and 2016-17 the only time where **** really changed a little...you can't say that for 2003-2009 or 93-99...

I don't think it has anything to do with her confidence or conviction, it's because of her online persona and honesty.

She built a brand before she ever picked up a microphone.
I gotta disagree with you here. You don’t get to where cardi b is from an online persona

So what actually makes Cardi successful? She's nowhere near lyrical, her subject matter is literally the same ****, her production isn't better or worst than everyone else that's out right now, she's not a great performer (who is nowadays?), and her enunciation of words are terrible. What does she actually excel at?

It's more than that. She ain't the first joint to put HOEing on a pedestal

She literally has every thot of different races, shapes, sizes, and incomes in the palm of her hands.

You just proved my point dawg. Back in the days, women of other races were not trying to be ghetto. They literally hated on our culture, and the style of black women for DECADES. Now, it’s common place with them trying to copy our women or, embrace being ghetto. I always take it back to Miley Cyrus and her lame *** trying to twerk. We BEEN doing that. White people, Asians, Hispanics, etc just discovered that word and they’ve destroyed it.

Mfers in ballet class, straight white women or Asian women talking about twerk fitness.. *****

It is that. And, I never said she was the first. My point is that it’s MAGNIFIED by infinity nowadays. I never said it was new.

Back in the days, of course there was raunch. Nowadays bruh, even children can discover raunchy stuff online, or go on Facebook or IG. Children literally can scroll and see women and men scantly clad or having group discussions about sex, strippers, etc.

Growing up, I had to sneak to find porn, playboy magazines, etc. you literally had to be on some Indian Jones s****. Sexual imagery is easily discoverable nowadays. Again, there’s no PC culture anymore.

You ain’t see white women, Asian women, etc trying to be ghetto or hood back in the day. Now all of sudden, every chic from all races wants to be ghetto. Even corporate women and it’s disgusting. I’ve literally worked in corporate situations and have seen I with my own two eyes.

Again, corporations and America as whole is trying to capitalize off ratchetness/the hood.

C’mon bruh, Lil Kim would not have gotten a Pepsi commercial back in the 90s, like Cardi B.

That’s what I mean about the world wanting to be ratchet. IDGAF about a Cardi B. I’ve grown up and seen women like he my entire life. Does not excite me

Same thing that makes Tiffany Haddish appealing. They're exaggerated stereotypes. Black/latino women love their personas because they remind them of a friend or family member. White people love them because they're fascinated. It's always funny/uncomfortable seeing white people interview Cardi or Tiffany. They look at them like "woooow you're so ghetto".

Crime pays _, crime pays

If you talking about suburban women yeah, depends on where you from back then, growing up in the bay hood asian, white, latin girls were always like that if you're talking about East Oakland, the various hoods in frisco, richmond etc. It's more so back then there was a clear difference in urban and suburban cultures but then urban culture was brought to the suburbs in the social media era
