There is a release valve. It's on the top right hand corner of the tongue. It's not visible, but it's inside the tongue. I tried it last night, so you're good!

actually bought em used at a store in Japan back in 2010 for $20. wore em a few times and the sole came off. last time i wore em (and when the sole came off) was the day shaq retired.
