Seattle Sonic Fans..

Team's are leaving the North West (including SacTown) like crazy. Vancouver, Seattle, Sacramento, possibly Portland. Pretty lame.

hearing the anaheim fans talk about "we want a team,  LA is too far of a drive"    "we'll support the team"   "they'll sell out every game here"  which is a joke because aside from the ducks stanley cup year in 07,  the honda center was always empty for ducks games, and up until 02  no one went to angel games and if they have another bad season this year  it will be back to how it was before.  orange county fans are pathetic and some of the most fairweather fans there is.  if the kings are going to move  then they should go to seattle or somewhere that will actually support the team.

the whole key arena situation was a joke and a cop out so  hometown sooner boy clay bennent could hold the city hostage, have unrealtistic demands for his new stadium in terms of funding and then pretend like he tried to keep the team there.  that whole thing was a joke and an insult to anyones intelligence when he said he made an effort to keep the team in seattle.  im sure people remember the emails where he was in his own words "determined to get the team to okc"

I'll give a serious answer here:

I started rooting for individuals for the first couple seasons. I focused on players that I probably wouldn't have known much about or followed otherwise, including superstars. I mean, if Seattle still had a team, I don't think I'd appreciate someone like Derrick Rose the way I do. I'd have Durant to focus on as my favorite player. Since the Sonics left I gained a greater appreciation for the game and began to look at a lot of other talent and follow them.

I've kind of adopted the Bulls this season. I'm in Chicago for the weekend and went to the game tonight. It was my first NBA game since Durant's rookie year, and I can't lie, I got a little misty during the player intros. I just forgot what it felt like to be in that atmosphere with a good team, great fans, and the sport I love. The fourth quarter was more satisfying than any other sporting event I've seen on TV or in person in years, honestly. That's how much I miss the NBA.

Exactly, sports teams are BUSINESSES, most teams don't give a #!## how dedicated their fans are, they will pick up and leave in a split millisecond if they could.
It is the more established, iconic and/or successful teams that will never be able to just pick up and leave, which is why it makes the most sense to root for premier franchises such as the Steelers, Cowboys, Lakers, Yankees etc.

BTW, I have a theory that East coast teams are far less likely to move than west coast teams. (And history has shown this to ring true...)

The reason is because for whatever reason, east coast fans are very passionate about sports (as a whole) more so than west coast fans are (as a whole), this is w/o question, reflected in seat sales and culture of East coast cities vs. west coast cities. (look at attendance of west coast NFL stadiums vs. east coast stadiums)

I wasn't close to the fan I am now of NBA Basketball, so I never really got to appreciate the Sonics, remember going to a few of their games when Ray Allen was the franchise player.

It would be awesome to have them back and although they are gone I can't help but feel they are one of the top re-location spots if a team does decide to move.

I don't see why you can't just keep supporting them. There's a bunch of old men in Brooklyn who still root for the Dodgers. Larry King remained a Dodger fan (though it helps he moved to LA).

Damn that. If I root for a team, that's my team. Screw the city.

Just doesnt feel the same..The Dodgers kept their name along with the history of the franchise when it moved to LA

Doesnt seem like old Browns fans were rooting for the Ravens before Cle got another team

Except it wasn't the Maloofs who turned their back on Sactown. The fans turned their back on the Kings. When it got bad they stopped showing up, and even before it got bad they wouldn't approve of a new stadium. Joe and Gavin ha every intention of keeping the team in Sacramento.
