Shooting Reported at Las Vegas Casino Hotel

I personally know a guy who posted something to the effect of "when tragedies happen, most people mourn, but I mostly look forward to the memes."

something really wrong with a person who can even form that thought in the mind, let alone actually believe it and share it in public.
Man....that's just f-ed up

I haven't been watching any of these "breaking news clips" from IG or social media that shows the carnage that was dealt or read any comments on news articles about it
Just too depressing to see the hopelessness of humanity

Anyway, the only bright side is that the people of Las Vegas lined up over night to donate blood to local clinics :nthat:
Faith in humanity was restored when I heard about that

I know several people with semi automatic assault rifles. No clue why they need them. Their answer is always because I wanted one. Wild that crazy people can get one just as easy because they wanted one.

Anyway, R.I.P. To those who lost their lives. Speedy recovery to those injured. Y'all be easy in here.

This is pretty crazy. Glad we have in Finland pretty much just shotguns and hunting rifles.

My comment about poverty was not to say or imply that it would stop mass shootings such as this. In fact I said in my first comment regarding whenever or not we as a country should pursue gun control should not be based on the assumption it would stop events like this. I have been measuring my comments.

You didn't say relative poverty under my comment. You said inequality. All I pointed out was that inequality was could be improved without helping the poor, and we would still have issues. It was not to if ignore the inequality issue it is to point out the unique nature of America's poverty problem, like dude in the video was doing, all was mainly talking about the shape of the distribution.

Using things like urban areas to argue that it is relative poverty introduces endogenous factors such as population density, and segregation.

Plus if you solve the poverty issue, the relative poverty issue would be attacked as well if the measure they are using is the gini coefficient.
Relative poverty is essentially the same thing as inequality. Not gonna get into a semantic argument over that.

"It was not to if ignore the inequality issue it is to point out the unique nature of America's poverty problem, like dude in the video was doing, all was mainly talking about the shape of the distribution." Not gonna touch that statement until you clean it up. Not calling you dumb or critiquing your grammar, because lord knows I have a tendency to do similar things with my writing (particularly when I write things in haste), but I don't think I can accurately respond to that until you clarify what you were trying to articulate.

Of course there are other factors that play into the current context of gun violence in the United States. Literally every issue dominating political discourse has multiple factors and nuances. Politics are complicated. The only reason I "corrected" you is that I think relative poverty/inequality is a more accurate depiction of the root cause of the majority of gun violence in America, rather than simply labeling it "poverty." Poverty needs to be put into a greater context.

Regardless...I think we're both (mostly) on the same page and just nitpicking each other at this point, which is partially my own fault.

Is it me or does it feel like a good amount of people are desensitized by these events as of late?

Like there be some dudes that be cracking jokes about this....smh

Always remember, we all deal with tragedies in different ways. There are people who are desensitized like you say, but there are others who use comedy to deflect from emotional pain.

Been this way forever. The root of dark comedy.

My thing is this: if you're gonna use dark comedy to make a joke immediately after a major tragedy it better be incredibly witty and incredibly poignant.

Still waiting for that joke to come.

a cheap pun or tired pop culture reference ain't gonna cut it. you just about gotta be Hunter S. Carlin to pull it off.

Different times, and Amercia not falling apart. This has been America from the jump.

that's not false. the country is built on a Native American burial ground.

this is crazy, just last night i was watching an episode about mass shootings on showtime, the first episode was about the aurora shooting.

it was crazy as hell how some of these indiciduals just see this as a point thing and want to be revered for something so bad even if its murder.

the media has given these suspects so much notoriety and exposure that they have become a little competition for psychos.

Or they can keep it to themselves and their circle of lames instead of fishing for likes and LOLZ

I looked up the top 50 dangerous countries on the planet. The only countries that are more dangerous than the US are ones that have been destroyed by civil wars, drug wars, and military coups. What an amazing standard to hold ourselves to

Are referencing this https://www.atlasandboots.com/most-dangerous-countries-in-the-world-ranked/

You do realize that one of the biggest factors that went into this ranking is “perceived criminality” right?

Like not actual crime or violence but how violent people think their country is.

Spending defense is a factor as well.

Those same idiots that elected Trump because America is a “violent wasteland” lead to this and not actual crime or violence stats

Wow. Is that confirmed? Him being an angry millionaire? The ****???

His brother is from Orlando, Fl (about 2 hours north of me) and our local news station broadcasted an interview he did with the Orlando press.

He has been divorced twice, with no children.

My brother has an AR. He got into guns really late in life (40) when no one in our family was into them. Been shooting with him a couple of times and met some of the people at the range. It really is just a different mindset altogether. Mind you this is the Bay Area where not everyone here is pro gun but people just feel really compelled to exercise their rights to bare arms and own the biggest guns ever. It's still a mystery to me since I don't really care for them but I am always reminded that people are human and simple things like human emotions can get the best of people. Someone can get so god damn mad that they'll just go on some blind rage and use their guns against people.
