Hey I work as a freight broker in Chicago....the middle man between shippers and carriers. What company are you going to work for? If you can get me an MC (motor carrier) number which he for sure has, i can tell you exactly how big, how many trucks they have, and their safety scores that are logged with the federal government. If everything works out and you do start working for him, being the broker that I am, I have access to hundreds of loads accross the country that I need to find trucks to haul it. So maybe we can do business....

I would not suggest getting paid in cash for a whole year. Atleast have some part of it taxed, so incase you need a loan from a bank, you can actually show them that you have been employed for that year. If you dont pay tax, you can not prove you have income.

I would for sure suggest moving to Chicago for atleast a year. It is a great city, especially in the summer time. Live somewhere on the North side and you wont have problems.

^ $2,000-$2,500 is going to get you an extremely nice 2 BR in the Northside. You don't need to spend nearly that much, although you said you're interested in Wrigleyville which is a relatively expensive trendy area. My aunt's a real estate agent in Chicago and I've followed her around numerous times when I'm up there, so feel free to PM me any questions and I can try to answer them.

Chicago is basically split up into north, south, and west mostly. What you want to look at is living on the northside, the amount that you pay for rent is going to vary by the neighborhood. Wrigleyville is an expensive neighborhood to live in so consider that area pretty high priced. You can look further north and like in Ravenswood, Logan Square or Bucktown, plenty of places. Except for uptown, that is the only rough area on the north where I am guessing one of the earlier posters was talking about.

Also just look at the stops on the L, stick to living near the brown line stops and the north part of the red part.

Stories of shootings and killings pretty much only happen if you are into that sort of thing, otherwise there is no need to be scared. Chicago is a world class city, at least experience it.

Thanks for the replies so far guys, purepw I am going to PM you in a little, you as well Destination

North Dade - was looking at apts for the past hour, 2500 seems like a little too much, but they are nice as hell. Was looking at the ones for 1500ish and they seem decent. Guy also told me that we could probably talk a few hundred off the price of whatever we decide to go after, hopefully get something real nice for 14-1500
