The Combat Jack Show Thread

Straight Pride sounds like a sausage fest.

They should walk over to the **** walk

Joe was wrong about Ma also. If you just go to be entertained, it's an enjoyable movie. It's crazy how he spoiled it, because what happen to her was

Mal the Stallion

Mal's a big ol freak

Strictly on the music, Wale doesn't make better music his peers. His delivery is trash and songs aren't as catchy and melodic compared to Drake, not a top tier Lyricist or has the cohesiveness on his projects like Kendrick. J.Cole sounds and flows better on features than anything Wale has dropped.

He's had major mainstream looks and nobody cares about his music because they don't think it's that good. Everyone has their lane but he's not great at anything, so there's no reason to check for him. We've seen artists with PR nightmares like Tyga become the butt of jokes and comeback with bangers that get spins so it can't just be his image.

I like his music better than any of his peers(Drake, Sean, Cole) besides Kendricks.

And none of them besides Kendrick has released a project as good as The Album About Nothing

Prior to last year I'd agree but last year he had some really good music come out even with it not being as melodic or catchy. Quality of music for Wale recently has been very nice

I do agree with Joe that if he was in a relationship with an r&b singer or whatever that he'd get more recognition. But yeah, he's unlikeable and i don't care to listen to his ****.

recognition for his relationship not for his music. He'd be the Karruche

Wale used to date Solange when she was Beyonce's little sister. I wonder since how she's perceived now, how he would be perceived with that.

His perception would be totally different. Unless they have a bad image, female fans typically support their artists partner

Of course he’s not Lupe or Pharoe Monch. That’s not the type of lyricist I’m comparing him to.

But in his class, you’re bugging if you’re saying he’s not top tier. Wale raps better than Kendrick and Drake/Drake’s writers imo. Cole from a technical standpoint is the only one who can run a lap with him on that front.

At this point people don’t like the aesthetic of Wale, and that leads them to downplaying the music. The music has always been good though.

What's a top tier lyricist in 2019?

I mean the bar is a bit lower now and/or lyricist don't get as much shine as the entertainers do so they may not be as known
but I'd go:
Top Tier: Push, Cyhi, Ross
Elite: Kendrick,
Great: Cole, Drake, 2 Chainz, B.o.B.

I'm not too hip with the younger acts so idk who any of the lyricists could be

Even in this context "top tier" isn't the best way to describe him because it implies he's super elite. He's better than all three of them for sure, too bad he's not good at the other part of being an amazing artist

:rollin

I never had real tears listening to the podcast before. The whole segment from when Rory called him Mall the Stallion had me in tears in traffic

That ***** Joe said
"Yo, what's the speed limit up there" :rollin :rollin

Never been a fan of Wale’s music, so I’m probably biased here. I really don’t even think he’s so great of a lyricist.

Someone give me a couple examples of his elite lyricism.

Wale is nice, b. :smokin

He’s just a cornball because he vocalizes wanting more instead of appreciating the success he has. J Cole’s criticism in that False Prophets track was the perfect breakdown of Wale.

“I got a homie, he a rapper and he wanna win bad
He want the fame, the acclaim, the respect that's been had
By all the legends, so every time I see him, he stressin'
Talkin' 'bout, ****** don't **** with him, the **** is depressin'
And I know he so bitter he can't see his own blessings
Goddamn, *****, you too blind to see you got fans, *****
And a platform to make a classic rap song
To change a ***** life, but you too anxious livin' life
Always worried 'bout the critics who ain't ever ****in' did it”

That’s Wale’s career in a nutshell. Dope music from a ***** who grew bitter.

Haven't listened to anything from Wale this year, but based on his previous projects he's not as good at making music as his peers. Anyone who says they'd take Wale's discography over Drake/Cole/Kendrick/Ross is a damn liar or in a very small minority. I don't think Wale is a bad lyricist at all, I don't think he's as good as his peers. Everyone of these guys has put out monumental, great songs in their career at some point. Even guys that were on his label.
Meek has classic tracks, Ross has classic tracks, I can't name one from Wale. Never got one request from anyone to play Wale. Never heard a car ever bump Wale in NYC. His music ain't it.

So you aren't debating facts, you're debating your opinion

Ross ain't top tier

BOB?

2 Chainz on the same level as Cole and Drake?

I've never really been a fan of Wale and never been a hater of his either, I think he's a good rapper but his music is boring, he just never grabbed my attention. I still don't know what he's done to make people hate him so much though.

We live in a era where people forgive and forget rappers for getting exposed and doing all kinds of dumb/corny ****. Drake got a long list of clown behavior and getting exposed but he the connections and stans to make him untouchable. Then you got a lot of these young rappers doing the dumbest **** imaginable and people keep rocking with them. _'s like Kodak and Youngboy are untouchable as far as in their fans eyes.

So you aren't debating facts, you're debating your opinion

Music is subjective, so having any discussion about quality is rooted in opinion.
Here's a fact though, his music is nowhere near as popular as his peers. There is a much smaller audience that enjoys his music, which he's stated himself. If we're going on facts there's nothing to debate.
