The Truth Behind Bottled Water

that's enough for me.

This is what I am trying to figure out. You are the kind of person the environmentalists need to reach. If someone can market environmental awareness as "cheap, easy, and comfortable" EVERYTHING would be solved. Stop trying to push the "it will save the world" message out there, because frankly people don't care. But if it's cheap, easy and comfortable, people will start getting on board. Whoever can come up with that campaign will be filthy rich.
Completely agree.
to get buy in from most people.. you have to make sure that a person's quality of life is not negatively affected whatsoever.

The only con to using a reusable container is the initial up front cost... but that pays for itself in about 10 uses

Like you said.. he has TWO kids.  When his kids grow up say in 10-20 years... they don't have to deal with environmental issues?  Shouldn't a parent instill positive influence on their kids such as how beneficial it is to recycle and care for the environment or are they going to grow up with the same spoil attitude?

You seriously need to exit left with the quickness. You came in here defending him about something that wasn't even being discussed.

I can't drink my NYC tap. My faucets sometimes spit out brown water. I don't live in the ghetto. Filters don't work.

So, I drink bottle. Sue me

This lady is stupid "cleaner" means nothing, it's not about "clean" any water from a natural spring like Fiji or Arrowhead are pure in comparision to Tap that has too much Calcium and Flouride that No filter can get out, they have done test..........so that video doessnt give the whole story and is misleading in many ways

I use a Brita filter because my tap water in FL is disgusting, and I'll try to refill a reusable canister I bought instead of buying bottled water.

For me I did it because it's far cheaper, but if it helps the environment, that's cool as well.

I've been drinking nyc tap water my entire life. What amazes me is how long its taken people to realize the scam that is bottled water. Like the vid said, "what's next paying for air?"

there's calcium in milk and flouride in toothpaste so what's your point? i don't think regular tap water is killing people

This is an easy one.  Because he comes off as arrogant, pompous and only out for himself and his interests.  He presents himself as having no issues with anything until it affects his wallet, which is a sad way to view the world.  I'm not saying he IS that way b/c I don't know the dude.  But he presents himself that way and I'm obviously not the only one to notice.

It has nothing to do with how he got his money, either.  He's a lawyer--he obviously worked hard to get where he's at.

Let me see tinkjubs argue that.

Well I am not HOVkid nor do I know HOVkid, but idk, he doesn't come off as pompous to me. He seems like an OK guy who doesnt like to give away his hard earned money, and gets annoyed when people call him "arrogant" because of it. The only thing I've seen him complain about consistently is high taxes...(and fat girls, but thats not the point)...hence why I asked why the hate towards him...because I don't see what you guys see I guess. One day I hope to be in his income bracket, and I would be just as upset if someone told me i HAD to give my $ away...or that my life isn't hard so I should help those less fortunate...thats more of a choice that people should make...I'd gladly give money to charities and such, but who's to say HOVkid doesn't already do that?
anywho...I'm done with this topic, this thread is about water, not HOV...agree to disagree.

Well being that youre so against giving your hard earned money (paying taxes), how do you feel about the fact that until you are in his tax bracket you are currently benefitting from him and others like him who pay more taxes? I mean the guy you are defending is the same guy complaining about paying extra taxes so that people like you and me (poor people) could live to some day be in his tax bracket. You could further practice what you preach if you start sending him weekly checks of say 20 dollars, you know just to offset some of the hard earned money he is generously giving us.

Total waste of time.

LOL I've actually been waiting for you to make a comment like this for a while, I didn't really want to make a thread asking people why they didn't care about the environment. Can you explain why you don't care to me please.

The whole environmentally concous thing is a scam for people to make money.  "Don't buy bottled water....buy our re-usable bottles!"  What the hell goes on at those @%@%*++ govt summits on the environment?  You know what goes on?  We pay through out tax dollars for govt officials to fly first class and stay in beautiful hotels and eat wonderful food for them to do absolutely NOTHING.

Give me a break.  I'll be dead 5 times over before any of this environmental garbage even matters (assuming it really is even true).  I got enough problems in my life.  I don't need to figure out the world's environmental issues, let alone feel bad about drinking Poland Spring.

Give me a tax break if I help the environment and I'll be happy to do whatever I can.  Otherwise.....its party time baby!
You're a clown, dude. I don't come onto NT hardly ever, so I don't know you're history on here, but it seems like others' responses that you just troll around on here trying to piss people off. With that being said, I'm taking your comments with a grain of salt - but I still can't let it slide completely.
First off, the whole point of using a re-useable water bottle is the fact that IT'S RE-USEABLE! This means you don't have to keep buying bottles - you just buy one or a couple and you're good for years. Do you use paper cups at your house and just keep going to Target and getting new ones all the time? Of course not - you use glass or re-useable plastic ones at your house.

Second, as others have said but you cast aside because you simply do not know what you are talking about, there are tax breaks for using green materials. These are not the tax breaks that presidents regularly talk about around election time because they are based on your actions, not your income. Not to mention the fact that "going green" more often than not is more efficient than trashing the environment and therefore saves you money in the long run anyway.

Third, "saving the environment" is not about saving your own life - it's about making sure that it's around for future generations. God forbid you dilute the gene pool with your pathetic seed, but it is a possibility and if you ever grow up you'll probably want your kids' kids' kids' to be able to breathe outside without a respirator.

And last, I'm calling you out on your whole internet schtick here - I'm betting you're about 16-19 years old and have about as much to do with corporate law as %$$! Cheney has with civil rights. You toss around your salary like it's something that grown folk talk about (on an internet message board where the average age is under 20, no less), troll these same message boards saying blatantly offensive things in hopes of offending people, and show no real understanding of the law in general.

And one last thing - if you are a middle-aged corporate lawyer, don't you have more important stuff than bringing your creepy self into the "post pics of fine females" threads to talk about hot girls with other kids while on your lunch break?!

And? I dont drink milk and not because of Calcium but because of the hormones in it, I drink rice milk or almond milk and I use Toothpaste without Flouride in it.........How do you know it's not killing people? they have linked Floride to a lot of different Cancers and Altimers, and the numbers are going up in minorities

At ONHOLLOWEDGROUND821's video: That might actually be a real concern with tap water - I don't know, I've never heard of this before. I do know that fluoride was originally added to tap water because it helps strengthen teeth (when it contacts your teeth, not when you ingest it). People that get their water from wells often do fluoride treatments at home similar to what you get at the dentist because they don't come into regular contact with it often enough.

All that being said, I'm a little skeptical of the video in general. The guy never mentions any of this stuff and just claims that there is absolutely nothing good that comes from having fluoride in tap water. If he's really been a health care specialist for over 30 years, he should at least know the basic uses of fluoride. The video also throws up random graphs with tiny, almost illegible writing without much explanation - only saying that it supports what they're already telling you. The graphs look jenky as hell and don't have any sources with them or anything.

@ notoriousnig, shots fired!!! Lol. However misguided Hov may be he's no troll. But you definitely hit the nail on the head with some of your points.

That's just a random video I had saved, google the effects of Flouride and see how much is in one glass of tap water, then compare it to toothpaste, Im not telling anybody to just take my word for it, research and youll see.......I did when somebody told me and I was amazed at how much stuff I found, funny enough I got a letter in the mail from my local water and power saying if I have fish or other aquatic Animals to not use the tap water or they will die and that I need to get something from the petstore to make the water safe........but it's okay for me to drink? ok

I am going to look into this, because you do bring up some good points about this.
One thing you said here, though - something that is unsafe for fish is not necessarily bad for humans (and vice versa). I keep fish at my house, so I know a little about this. Anyone with an aquarium will tell you that you have to dechlorinate water before you add it to a tank. The chlorine in tap water is not enough to harm you and is only used to keep bacteria from building in the water while it's in the pipes and what not. In aquariums, this chlorine will keep the beneficial bacteria from building up in your tank that breaks the ammonia from fish waste down into nitrites and nitrates. As I said, though - this chlorine is not enough to harm you (it takes far more chlorine to kill a human than to kill a single celled organism.

And to everyone saying this hov person isn't a troll - he's coming in to an environmental thread to say "I'm not going to live forever so f the environment - it's party time." That is a troll, to me.

Thank you.  This is why I can't take dude seriously and this is where the "hate" on NT comes from.  I can understand different values, morals, etc.  But the earth is something that everyone lives on and as far as I know, that isn't going to change anytime soon.  So in turn, his kid's kids will be living on this same planet, struggling with the impact of the earlier generation's mistakes.  And you're not going to even attempt to play a role in making things better down the road for your family?  Makes no sense to me and it definitely shows a "me first" disposition.

But dude is probably already scoping out plots on the moon or some %*%!.

HovKid, does your wife work?
She used to, but when we moved to Long Island after we had our first baby, she decided to give up her job so she could be with Emerson everyday.  It was a blow to us because she made basically just as much as I was making at the time.  I was pretty nervous about it, but in the end, about 6-9 months after she gave it up I realized that it's worth all the money in the world to have Jen watching the kids.  I don't have to worry about nannies or how they might treat my kids, etc.  Jen basically puts everything she used to put into her job into raising Emerson and jack, and their progress is unreal.

I feel very blessed from a family standpoint.

If I can take a minute to say.....

Thanks
thytkerjobs!!!!!!!

This is the first person on NT to ever realize where I'm coming from.  I work so hard to get where I've gotten.  I busted my +#! for 15 years, studying all day and night in law school, working 80-100 hour workweeks after graduating and until only 2 years ago when I have the job I have now.  And because I made something of myself so I could take care of my family and not be a drain on society, I am penalized for it.  That is bs.  I'll pay some taxes.  Hell, I'll pay the same percentage as everyone else.  But I have to pay more because I took advantage of "the American dream"?  WTH????

And listen, just face it, I don't care one iota (sp?) about recyling or sustainability.  Its a joke and effects my life zero.  Just like the recent heathcare bill.  I get nothing from it....oh wait, I get another $2,000 a year in taxes.  That's right.  So now I'm not only funding people's mortgages for them, I'm also paying for their heathcare.  Name one thing being done for me!  Its not like I'm making millions of dollars a year here like a movie star or pro athlete!  Why do I have to deal with this?  I live in a bsic 4 bedroom home in an area with a good public school system, have two cars and am saving for my keds college.  I'm not driving Bentlys and ferraris and living in $10m mansions.

Its f'd up....that's all.

"The chlorine in tap water is not enough to harm you"

Not right away it's not, it's not like right away you are going to see the effects of any of this stuff, it's over time, why do you think they show a link to Altimers and Cancer, you dont get that over night.......like I said just look into it youll see, atleast you have an open mind about it
